Bionic Commando Gets Officially Official Street Date

Wednesday, March 25, 2009, 11:48 AM [Bionic Commando]

Bionic Commando gets a date!  A date with numbers and a month and everything!

My favorite part about this date is that it's not that far from our current date, so it's only 7 weeks until my zipkicking boots will be planted on your grill via the magic of online multiplayer deathmatch.  Rejoice!

Hit the jump for the press release and a little bit of Bionic backstory...

Capcom is pleased to confirm that the highly-anticipated Bionic Commando will ship to retailers in North America on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Reloaded for the latest generation of hardware, Bionic Commando sees the return of the ultimate fusion of man and machine as Nathan Spencer is back as a government operative who, after distinguishing himself in a fierce conflict against the Imperials, is betrayed and falsely imprisoned by the very people he unquestioningly served.

However, when bioterrorists detonate an experimental device over Ascension City and then occupy it, there is only one option open to the authorities – reactivate Nathan Spencer.

The upcoming new generation game, first released 20 years ago with the 8-bit original on the NES, is making a big comeback when it hits retail shelves this spring as it features an in-depth multiplayer mode that will have you swinging with friends around the globe via Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network.

The PC version of Bionic Commando is due to ship shortly after the console release.  More details surrounding the PC version will be following in the upcoming months.

    Bionic Commando at SXSW Interactive

Monday, March 16, 2009, 01:46 PM [Bionic Commando]

Bionic Commando is making an appearance at the Alienware booth this week at the South by Southwest (aka "SXSW") Interactive Festival in Austin, TX.

Stop by to see the game in action (it is drop-dead breathtaking (is that a phrase?) on those crazy PCs) for some hot 8-commando multiplayer action.  We've got a bunch more BC goodness coming up as well--set expectations to "ZOMG."

    Win the Bionic Commando Lunchbox

Tuesday, February 17, 2009, 11:41 AM [Bionic Commando]

Destructoid's Capcom-loving RetroforceGo! crew are at it again.  Listen to their new Valentine's Day podcast here for details on how you can win yourself one of those sweet BC lunchboxes.

And this isn't just any BC lunchbox either--it will also contain a very special sandwich, hand-made by me.  Not only will I make you a sandwich, the sandwich will also be entirely composed of items I have stolen from the Capcom communal fridge.

It is highly recommended that you NOT eat this sandwich since a) it will be made of pretty gross stuff b) I'm not that clean to begin with c) it will almost certainly have spoiled by the time it gets to you.

    Itadakimasu!

More details here, and listen to the show for how you can win.

Bionic Commando Rearmed wins Kotaku Judges' Choice Award

Monday, January 5, 2009, 05:58 PM [Bionic Commando]

So yeah, BCR won their judges choice award.  Awesome!  Even more than the award itself, however, what I love is this writeup, which I think totally hits the nail on the head.

You can keep your "visionary," cause Capcom is all about the FUN--you know, the kind of games you actually WANT to play, instead of the ones you "should" play.  Thanks guys!

The broadest measure of a video game's excellence is also the simplest: “What was the most fun?” This year, Bionic Commando: Rearmed was the pound-for-pound champion of fun. Not, “thought-provoking,” not “awe-inspiring,” not “most visually stunning,” — just “I want to play this” fun. BCR flawlessly bridged the best of two generations, rendering the addictive, endlessly replayable world of the classic 8-bit platformer in the audiovisual tableau of a next-gen console — at a price cheaper than the original by half.
