Dark Void Zero Review Round-Up!

Thursday, March 4, 2010, 5:02 PM [Dark Void]

Mega Man 10 isn't the only Capcom retro hotness that's been racking up some great reviews.  Dark Void Zero has also been sitting pretty on metacritic with an 86 overall, including an "A" from 1UP

Here are a few other reviews from around the nets, but don't overthink it: the game is $5 and everybody loves it.  Get it today!

“Dark Void Zero would have been considered a "classic" had it been made 25 years ago, and today, it's a retro-style blast.” – IGN

“It succeeds in virtually every aspect of its execution, and if you own a DSi this fantastic piece of software is an absolute must-own.” – Nintendo World Report

“If you're a fan of classic 8-bit action titles…this is definitely a game you'll want to add to your DSiWare collection. And if you're not a fan, this wildly enjoyable title might just make one out of you.” – Nintendo Life

“I had forgotten just how much I enjoy these simple, straightforward games. For some odd reason, Dark Void Zero reminds me of all of the time I spent playing through Duck Tales on the original Game Boy back when plot and graphics were a distant second to fun. And that's a very good thing.” – Kotaku

    Smell the Void

Monday, January 18, 2010, 12:22 PM [Dark Void]

Microsoft's smell-o-vision peripheral was not finished in time for Dark Void (**angry team of MSFT lawyers wants you to know that they have no comment on the existence or non-existence of smell-o-vision anything), but that doesn't mean we can't still use our imaginations.

When it comes to Dark Void, the game has you covered in terms of sights and sounds, but it's up to you to tell us about the smells.  Head over to the Capcom twitter and tell us what you think Tesla-powered jetpack exhaust smells like. A delightful pine?  Ozone-tinted death?  Who can say?

New PlayStation: the Official Magazine Chock Full of Capcom

Tuesday, January 12, 2010, 12:20 PM [Dark Void]

Although you wouldn't know it from the cover, this month's PlayStation: The Official Magazine (that's Feb, 2010) is bursting at the seams with Capcom goodness.

First up is an in-depth Dark Void review, which scores 4 out of 5 stars:

"Blasting into the sky after a full-on ground war, jacking alien vessels, and tracking down impossibly huge airships elevates the adventure to a peak that's exciting, powerful, and just plain fun."

The magazine also has a great piece introducing the new Super SFIV challengers, a giant Lost Planet 2 Akrid, and in their zany "Best of 2009" awards, Sheva's Merc's mode tribal outfit wins "Outfit of the Year," and C. Viper wins M.I.L.F. of the year (that's Mother I'd Like to *Fight*, kids)! Check it out at a newsstand near you.

Dark Void Remix Contest Winner (as chosen by Bear McCreary!)

Monday, December 21, 2009, 4:55 PM [Dark Void]

Our Dark Void remix contest is a wrap, with DV composer Bear McCreary awarding Jesse G. the top prize for his "Main Finger Mix."

Bear not only chose the winner, but also provided some very cool commentary on what set this remix apart:

"There are some fantastic ideas here: the shuffle groove cut up from my taiko riff, the simple sine wave synth lines that bring to mind the 8-bit stylings of my own "Dark Void Theme (Mega Version)," the heavy-rock bridge featuring acoustic drums and electric guitar and the re-harmonization of the melody at the end of the piece, among others."

Head over to the Dark Void site for his full commentary and of course to check out the winning track: Theme from Dark Void (Main Finger Mix)!
