Join Us for a Top Secret Dark Void Event

Thursday, October 8, 2009, 12:33 PM [Dark Void]

Excited about Dark Void?  Free next Monday (Oct. 12th) afternoon?  Then you will definitely want to join us for a very special top secret Dark Void event.  Just how secret is "top secret"?

--It's so secret that we can't even tell you what we're going to be doing.

--It's so secret that we won't even give you the location of the event, we just give you a location where we'll pick you up and take you from there to the secret event.  That's what they do at the kind of cool raves I don't get invited to!

--It's so secret that even monocle-wearing millionaires who want to do what we're doing don't get to do it.  Dun-dun-dun!

If you're selected to go, you'll receive the location of an assembly point somewhere in downtown San Francisco.  At 2pm, the invitees will assemble, and we will pick you up to take you to the secret location.

If you want to go, drop THIS GUY a note explaining why we should choose you.

    Requirements:

--you must be 21 years old or above, with valid ID in the form of a US driver's license.  Without this, you can't go.

--you must be able to make it to the assembly point by 2pm on Monday, October 12th.  You'll be gone until ~7:30 pm, so you'll need the afternoon and early evening free.

If you're available, this is definitely one you don't want to miss!

    The History of Videogame Jetpacks

Thursday, August 27, 2009, 12:14 PM [Dark Void]

Offworld has a fun little piece on the glorious history of jetpacks in videogames.

The piece runs from 1983's Jetpac for the ZX Spectrum on up to our own Dark Void, hitting the high points everywhere in between, with plenty of 8-bit youtube goodness.

    Check it out here.

New Dark Void Producer Blog and Video!

Wednesday, August 26, 2009, 12:18 PM [Dark Void]

Morgan is back with part 2 of his developer blog (part 1 is here).  He talks about the subtle and not-so-subtle changes they've been working on, including the new "hover up" ability.

Unlike the obvious appeal of rocketing around with a jetpack, "hover" might not immediately sound sexy, but if you think about it like a game designer, it's actually pretty revolutionary.  Being able to hover up (or down, or left, or right) basically makes every part of every area accessible.  It adds a lot of fun, but also creates a lot of challenges in terms of creating level flow, maintaining difficulty, etc.

Rather than hearing me try and talk about it, head here and just watch the video. It gives a great sense of the real freedom and verticality of the game--you really can go just about anywhere and approach a given situation from any angle you like.
