Tatsunoko Vs Capcom Dev Blog: Burning ROMs (plus Frank West plays Baseball!)

    Friday, November 6, 2009, 05:43 PM [General]

Just a few words from the infamous Ishizawa-san (aka "Neo_G", TvC game director), who is busy burning up TvC roms and providing us some amusing new TvC: Ultimate All-Stars videos.

For the record, it's stuff like this video above that makes me absolutely love this game.  Why did they bother programming this?  Because they love these characters and are having fun.  That fun is infectious--play this yourself and see...

    --
Hi everyone, it's Neo_G, doing some ROM burning party these past few days.

Recently, the development schedules started to calm down so I thought I sit down, take it easy, but that was just for a little moment - I've started to receive lots of requests for ROMs to present the game at many different events in the pan-western territories.

Well of course, this is great!

America, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland, Netherlands, Denmark, Finland...
TvC is one of the titles that's receiving the most ROM requests in all titles that I ever took part in.

Talking about being well-received with TvC in pan-western territories, at one of the major gaming websites "IGN" has chosen TvC as "BEST WII GAME" in "TGS09: The Best of Tokyo Game Show"!

We didn't have any playable booths at TGS!
After receiving many E3 awards, I'm very happy about this!!

...With that in mind, I keep burning ROMs, on and on...
I'm the director of the game, but every 1 ROM, I burn them myself!!
(Other Capcom R&D members take their master-up holidays, and so there are only 3 of us: Niitsuma-san, Kadowaki-san and me, so I take care of little chores to directing games :p)

So here's a picture of me burning ROMs and checking whether the ROMs work on the dev kits and writing each ROM label by hand....
(these are all manual labor... X( )

    Hm?  What's this screen showing....?

    New Ghost Trick Trailer!

    Friday, November 6, 2009, 12:00 PM [General]

Trailer is in Japanese, but you get a great look at what's going to be some Capcom fan's favorite new game.  Basically you get surprise murdered in the first scene, and then spend the game using your ghostly powers to defend your girl while trying to get to understand the mystery of why you were killed in the first place.

I had a chance to play through the Ghost Trick demo at TGS this year, and I have to say that even without speaking a word of Japanese, I had a blast.  It's got a great sense of style, humor, and the silkiest animation I've ever seen on a DS.

This will be making it's way west in 2010, so stay tuned...

Tatsunoko Vs Capcom Street View: Joe, Zero, and Frank in Action

    Tuesday, November 3, 2009, 01:55 PM [General]

You've probably seen some of the Super SFIV footage from the recent Capcom Fight Club, and here's some similarly shaky-cam style street views of some new Tatsunoko Vs Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars characters in action.

We've got Joe the Condor, Mega Man Zero, and two Frank Wests.  Although of course this is the first time these players are going hands-on with the characters, they look pretty solid with Joe and Zero.  The Frank West play is a little shakier, but you get to see some good stuff, including Joe's cool counter move (at 0:35--love that thing!),and the super-delayed missile explosion from his GodPhoenix super (I love their "WTF was that!?") at 2:47.

And if you're looking to catch a Tatsunoko-flavored beating this weekend, check out St. Louis' AerialRave tournamentKurasa, one of my favorite TvC players, will be there putting on a Doronjo showcase.

Japanese Women's Samurai Fantasies? Girly Men? Cake-Eating?!

    Tuesday, November 3, 2009, 01:16 PM [General]

An interesting and surprisingly well-researched article from Jezebel coming up with ideas about Japanese women's apparent interest in Samurai stories and games. They talk to Sengoku Basara's Kobayashi-san, and drop a healthy dose of Japan-o-centric sociological stats.

"Girly men have no interest in fast cars, career success, designer labels and trophy women. Instead, they hold down humble jobs, cultivate women as friends rather than conquests and spend their free time shopping at small boutiques and pursuing in Japan what is regarded as a profoundly feminine pastime: eating cakes."

Interesting stuff, no matter which side you come down on. Check it out here.

What do you think?  As a grass-eating girly-man myself, I'd be offended if I wasn't too busy eating a fancy cake.

Tatsunoko Vs Capcom: Then and Now

    Monday, November 2, 2009, 12:10 PM [General]

In addition to the new characters, and online matchmaking, Tatsunoko Vs Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars also got an in-depth rebalancing.  It ranges over everything, from cleaning up some pesky infinites, to character buffs, to new launcher properties, and more.

While I hope to be sharing some more specifics on what has changed soon, in the meantime, the Shoryuken hardcore have put together a great primer on what's changed from TvC: Cross-Generation of Heroes to TvC: Ultimate All-Stars.  Check it out here.

And in closing, just a random video of some great LA players (Il.nd and RoyalFlush) going at it on the arcade Tatsunoko Vs Capcom--the game that started the wave of excitement that eventually brought us the TvC: Ultimate All-Stars we'll see soon.  <3 OG TvC too :)
