Gamevideos is hosting a new video interview (from Garnett Lee?) with Resident Evil 5 superproducer Jun Takeuchi.
Takeuchi-san talks about what's been happening in terms of the story (game takes place shortly after RE4), the fate of the Umbrella Corporation, the demise of S.T.A.R.S., and Chris Redfield's new organization, and the game's oxymoronically *great* zombie AI.
I hate it when awesome stuff gets lost in the shuffle (like when we dump massive piles of CAPTIVATE-related goodness on you all at once), so I'm calling out BC multiplayer specifically!
Yes, full-on, friend-crushing, enemy pwning multiplayer. It's a really nice fit with the swing, too. Of course you have to swing to get around quickly, and swinging has a great set of advantages (harder to hit, special moves, mobility) and disadvantages (travel arcs more predictable, harder to aim while swinging), both offensively and defensively.
...and damn, is it fun. It's been hard to keep silent on this feature. Every time someone compared the game to Spiderman - not necessarily a bad thing but still I think BC is a game that stands on its own - I so wanted to bust out this gem of a feature.
Did I mention it was fun? We've been playing it for over 6 months and it was gold right from the start. There is something about chasing down another opponent while swinging through the air that just needs to be played to be believed. The swing mechanic totally fits the Multiplayer and creates the perfect balance:
Comicbookresources.com has a great, in-depth piece detailing UDON's upcoming Street Fighter Tribute art book, which collects Street Fighter art from big-name comic artists as well as art submitted by fans just like you.
They talk to UDON staff, individual artists, and provide plenty of sneak-peeks at the motherlode of SF art contained within.
This new video shows off some classic Super Turbo combos (now in glorious HD!) along with some of the new combo possibilities you'll find in the "Rebalanced" mode in Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. Here's what Rey Jimenez, the HD Remix producer, has to say about this video:
Ok, with Captivate 08 over now and the new screens released, I figured I should get some video to you guys to tide you over until the open beta starts (very soon). And no... it's not from my camera phone.
I'd like to thank our new-ish QA guy here Derek for doing the combos for me. I'm decent at the game, but Derek’s much better than me. Better than Seth? That remains to be seen, but Derek has put up a few combo videos in his time, so he was perfect for doing this for me.
I'd just like to note that these were all done on a normal joystick, so no programmable shenanigans are going on here. Also, for some reason there are black bars showing on the left and right sides. It's strange because these didn't show up on the monitor I was using. In 16:9 mode, the screen should go all the way to the edge of the screen, but in the event that it doesn't, the screen will be fully scalable to fit any screen size, similar to Super Puzzle Fighter HD Remix.
So, keep a sharp eye out if you can.
A few of the combos in the video are only possible in the new Remixed mode. Let's see if you guys are sharp enough to figure out which ones they are. I'm not sure how the quality is going to look after being posted on Youtube, but rest assured that it’s looking HOT right now. You guys are certainly going to be blown away by what we’re doing for a downloadable game. Till then, take care.
*note that while damage has always been high in Super Turbo, many of these combos are performed against Akuma, who takes even more damage than most characters.
In addition to the press and members of our Capcom community, CAPTIVATE08 also got a surprise visit from MMA World Champion Cung Le. The champ (and his belt!) came through to check out all the new games, but he was of course specially interested in SFIV.
We took him down to some private machines where he went one on one with SFIV producer Yoshinori Ono himself. Ono-san fought bravely, but when he went down in the third, he tagged me in to put the champ on his back.
After apparently succumbing to my pre-match staredown, it turned out Cung was just playing possum in our first match. He gave me the rope-a-dope, and after I relaxed my guard he came out swinging in the second match to score a devastating victory.
After that, I had to avenge myself using the one-handed crane technique, but it was too late--the word of Cung's victory had already spread through the whole party.
Best quote of the night came from Cung's manager, Scott: "He's more excited about this than the Shamrock fight! And no bruises either!"
Cung Le is one of the most dynamic and devastating fighters in the sport, but he's also a really great guy and a legit gamer (he complained about being barely able to beat the final boss in Lost Planet).
