Mega Man Music Inspires TV Soundtracks

Monday, November 17, 2008, 12:55 PM [Mega Man]

The magic of Mega Man's infectiously great music continues to spread.  Sci-Fi composer extrordinaire Bear McCreary (the musical composer for such shows as Battlestar Galactica, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and Eureka) recently revealed he is a huge Mega Man fan:

"I’ve actually used a lot of influence from Mega Man in the new season of Eureka. Listen in the first episode of season 3 and you’ll hear some blatantly obvious homages. I’ve introduced a lot of 8-bit NES and Gameboy sounds to my writing template, most of them sampled directly off the old hardware. It’s been a fascinating sound to play around with. I also pulled heavily from 16-bit systems, including the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis for some old-school FM synthesis. One of the things that makes Eureka so much fun is that I get to do this kind of experimentation."

Pictured above are his harddrives, containing all the music he's ever created, each named after a Robot Master!

    Rocking Out with Rockman

Wednesday, November 5, 2008, 11:01 AM [Mega Man]

A dedicated Capcom fan recreated this classic Capcom tune from Mega Man (aka "Rockman") in Guitar Hero: World Tour.

This version of Dr. Wily's stage 1 theme (from Mega Man 2) apparently reached #1 on the GHtunes charts before being slapped down by the man, and is now only available as this youtube memory... sniff

    Thanks Protodude!

New Mega Man 9 DLC: Let's Get Stupid!

Monday, October 20, 2008, 02:09 PM [Mega Man]

There's three new Mega Man 9 DLC packs hitting WiiWare today (October 20th, 2008), with XBLA following on October 21st, and PSN releasing October 23rd.

Today's menu offerings are: Special Time Attack Stage, Hard Mode, and Expert Mode.  Click here for a gallery of a few choice screens!

My favorite so far is the all-new Special Stage (not to be confused with Special Sauce).  It's great because:

    1) It's pretty hard but beatable by humans.

    2) It has really creative uses for all of your different weapns.

    3) Do I have to even mention it?  New Boss: Fake Man!   I am a super sucker for bosses of any kind, and Robot Masters maybe most of all.

As for the other DLC packs, we heard the masses crying out that "Mega Man 9 is great, but frankly it was a little too easy!"  And so we bring you Hard Mode, and the jaw-dropping Expert Mode.

The difficulty on Expert Mode is reported to be "three times" as hard as the default MM9.  I like to imagine some Giant Dial of Evil-ness attached to the MM9 production line, and Inafune-san cranking it alllll the way up for this one, cackling with dark glee.

If you thought there were a few enemies in unfair places before--woo!--wait until you play these modes.  Rough!  Attention noobs: DO NOT PURCHASE EXPERT!  Or, alternately, buy it for someone you dislike.

Mega Man 9 Kits Sell Out Instantly

Thursday, October 9, 2008, 06:41 PM [Mega Man]

If these kits were a Robot Master, they'd be Flash Man, cause they were gone in a flash. 3pm PST came, and within 4 minutes, we were sold out of the remaining stock.

I'm glad some select Unity members were able to get theirs early, and hopefully a few of the rest of you managed to snag some of these.  If you didn't manage to get through, don't forget about the contest!

We'll be working to try and fulfill all the orders and we'll see what comes next when the smoke clears.  Stay tuned here for more details, and a heartfelt THANK YOU! to all the crazy Mega Man fans that have helped to make this game a hit--seeing all this love has truly warmed the heart of an OG Mega Man nut.
