Resident Evil 5 with Motion Control turns Doubter into Believer

Thursday, June 24, 2010, 11:38 AM [Resident Evil]

When I heard Resident Evil 4 was coming to the Wii, I was pretty skeptical.  RE4 is one of my all-time favorites, and I didn't want to see it getting a gimmicky hand-wavey treatment.  Instead, RE4 Wii turned out to be my very favorite RE4 experience, and the one I actually recommend to people that haven't played it yet.

RE5 + Sony's Move controller is now shaping up to pull off the same trick. If you don't believe me, here's what Kotaku's Brian Ashcraft had to say about it when he went hands-on last week:

"When Capcom showed survival horror game Resident Evil 5 being playing with PS3 Move motion controls at last year's Tokyo Game Show, I quietly snickered to myself. No, actually, it may have been audible. Boy, was I ever wrong.

Let's be honest, it's easy to assume tacked on motion controls are a gimmick. Really easy.

Yet, I didn't get that feeling with the Move controls for Resident Evil 5. I was bracing myself for that feeling, but it wasn't there. In fact, in the hands on time I had with them at E3 last week, they actually felt better than the straight up controller — this coming from someone who generally prefers traditional game controls."

Read his full impressions here, and definitely give this game a try--I think it's a great introduction for anyone that missed RE5, and a whole new experience for anyone that played it through the first time.

Local Graduation Cake stricken by T-Virus Outbreak

Friday, June 4, 2010, 12:07 PM [Resident Evil]

More deviancy from deviantart, this time in the form of an epic Resident Evil graduation cake

Upon closer inspection, this is more like an outbreak of Resident Evil action figures marauding across an innocent cake, but it's pretty epic all the same.  In the baker's own words:

    Consists of:
7 cakes. (Vanilla, Chocolate, Red Velvet, Marble, Double Chocolate, Strawberry, German Chocolate)
9 icing containers. (All Cream Cheese Frosting)
    1 small package of fondant.
All of my Resident Evil figures.
    Buckets of love!

Upon even *closer* inspection, there's not actually a lot of cake in there at all--it's rivers and shrubbery are composed of pure icing.  Is the icing-to-cake ratio high enough to strip it of it's "cake" status?  Regardless, it's an awesome way to graduate.

Resident Evil 4 and EDGE's "Game of the Decade"

Friday, December 18, 2009, 12:10 PM [Resident Evil]

While the best-of 2009 lists are flying around the internets, EDGE Magazine's new issue has upped the ante and named the "game of the decade" (take THAT, puny 2009!).

Resident Evil 4 ended up as their runner-up, alongside such luminaries as Halo, Half-Life 2, and Grand Theft Auto III, with World of Warcraft taking top honors.

Frankly, that seems a little cheap to me, since if you look at the number of updates and patches, WoW is really more like 150 different games with the same name--and would also be about 200x more expensive than the other contenders if you count up expansions and monthly fees.

Boo, I say.  Boo!  =)  What do you think?
