Super Street Fighter IV in Action: They Play, I Talk

Wednesday, November 18, 2009, 12:06 PM [Street Fighter]

I was in LA yesterday to talk with the Street Fighters over at G4 (and eat some grits).  We ran through Juri, T. Hawk, and Dee Jay, while they play, and I run my mouth about what's going on.  Be sure to stop by G4tv.com for a few additional vids.

    A few notes here:

    1) the game is still in development, so things can (and probably will) change during balancing.  That's why they call it balancing, after all.

    2) If you feel like you've heard a lot of this before, it may be because you have :)  We talk to a lot of different people about the current info, so if you're following ALL of them, you risk hearing the same things (oh noes!). The good news is that I'll have some more info to share with everybody soon--maybe even as soon as next week...

The Street Fighter IV Cozy can now be Yours

Wednesday, November 11, 2009, 03:53 PM [Street Fighter]

Beginning with an innocent twitpic, the Street Fighter IV Cozy (not to be confused with the products of the wholly unrelated Snuggie corporation) has taken the internet by storm

I'm happy (and sad, and then happy again) to say Unity actually has one of these to give away, and it can be yours.  Just post a comment telling us which Street Fighter should (or shouldn't) be wearing this, we'll pick a winner at random, and then you will instantly become the most (or least, or both) awesome kid on your whole block.

** please note that our model is a) very petite b) in Los Angeles in the middle of a warm day, so she is probably not as happy about additional warm, snug coziness as you will be.

    California Street Fighter Tournament Madness

Wednesday, November 11, 2009, 01:25 PM [Street Fighter]

The SFIV tournament scene is as hot as ever, and California has two big events coming up over the next two weekends.

The first is ActivegamersLA is putting on a crazy shindig full of Street Fighter goodness near Los Angeles, this coming weekend (Nov 14-15th).

Part costume contest, part birthday party, and part high-stakes tournament, familiar faces like Justin Wong will be there to battle it out on games including Street Fighter IV, Street Fighter III: Third Strike, and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix.

Mark and Chris from the Mad Catz crew will also be there, giving you a chance to try out their new Marvel vs Capcom 2 stick. Get the full details here.

Last but definitely not least is the long-running annual throwdown at the NorCal Regionals, on November 21 and 22nd.

Northern California's finest will assemble to face off against the best from around the nation in Sunnyvale, CA, near their ancestral arcade home.  Northern California is a notorious hotspot for Street Fighter, having produced MANY great champions, and they'll all be in attendance, so it's guaranteed fun.

Two fun events on back-to-back weekends, and both events will be streaming the Street Fighter action live.  If you're unlucky, you'll hear me doing some play-by-play from the NorCal Regionals, and if you're *really* unlucky, I might actually see you there.

More Details on Super Street Fighter IV's New Online Modes

Tuesday, November 10, 2009, 05:53 PM [Street Fighter]

The SSFIV team has updated their development blog, and Eventhubs has done a great job putting the translated info into a nicely digestible format.

They go in-depth on a number of points, so it's a long read, but very worth your time (and to add to what has already been said, yes, you CAN record and save your matches at will).

    Check it out here.

Super Street Fighter IV: 4 New Modes!

Friday, November 6, 2009, 01:02 PM [Street Fighter]

Super Street Fighter IV has "IV" New Modes, and they are JUICY.  Get Hype!

--Team Battle.  Team up with your friends (or strangers) to take on all-comers in 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4 formats, and more!

--Replay Channel.  Record, watch, and save matches, or watch how everyone else is playing on one of a variety of streaming match "channels"

--Endless Battle.  Play in arcade-style "winner stays, loser to the back of the line" lobbies.

--Bonus Stages.  Crush the car and smash the downpour of barrels in a test of skill against the clock.

In all the online battle modes, you can watch the match in progress while waiting your turn to play, and talk trash about the online action with the other spectators :)

PS- You might have seen this trailer appear overnight in Japanese, but here it is in conventient translation.
