    My Capcom life

    Friday, June 26, 2009, 04:54 PM [General]

Well I've been a capcom fan ever since I was born (literally) as my brothers got me to play street fighter 2 since I was 2 or 3 (I really can't remember exactly when, I was a baby for crying out loud). We had a Sega Saturn around that time and had X-men: Children of the Atom and Marvel Superheroes. As you can tell, not the biggest variety of games for the Saturn (well at least made by Capcom) but you'll find out a bit more later. Not too long after we got a Dreamcast and lived off borrowed games and Sonic Adventure. Then I discovered the Mega Man series through Marvel vs Capcom (this was when I was about 5 years old) when I thought there was a peculiar character "who was small like me" at the time. I then went to meet my grand parent living half way around the world (6 years old) and my brother got a GameBoy Advance along with Street Fighter II revival. I wasn't too interested. When we came back, I played Power Stone 2 almost everyday unless my eldest bro was sitting for another 6 hours playing Marvel vs Capcom 2.

Some time later (8 years old) I went abroad to the US and got a GBA SP and a load of cheap games (well, cheaper than UK) and one of them was Mega Man battle Network 3 Blue and I played it day in day out until my battery died (a little obvious). Then the year after (9 years old believe it or not) we went to the US again and this time it was for the gamecube games! This time round, I got Mega Man X Command Mission and Auto Modilisa (sp?). Of coarse we got other games but these are the only Capcom ones we got. When we got back, I played Command Mission until my brother made an excuse for me to get off and to play Modilisa.

Not too much happened here other than going back to playing Dreamcast and overheating it with Rival Schools: Project Justice as it was a lot easier for me than MVC2 until we got Capcom vs SNK. Damn the music was just brilliant and that's not all, we even got the sequal, CVS2: Fight of the Millenium! Shin Gouki and God Rugal were darn hard (we had a **** ver but there wasn't really much story so we got by) but with a Ryu and Ken, they went down with a busted joypad (well the D-pad is messed up on one of the controllers).

I then got a DS on my third holiday to US (well 4th since I went when I was a baby but didn't remember) and I was around 11 and got a DS! Got Mega Man battle Network 5: Double Team as well as a couple of Mario games. When I came back, I borrowed my friends copy of Phoenix Wright and boy was it fun! I completed it in about a week but it felt a lot longer as I kept getting the GUILTY verdict but it was definately fun. I can see why he loved it so much. I was a little bit bored of a fully completed Mega Man Battle Network 5: Double Team twice (once on each path where it is slightly different) and decided, "Heck I'm bored as I complete games too quickly. I have a spare £50 I guess I'll go to Game at the weekend." So I did and I bought 2 games: Mega Man ZX and The World Ends With you. I was pretty surprised at the difficulty of ZX when I played it on normal (take note this was my first side scrolling Mega Man game, everything else was RPGs) so I had to play through on easy. This is what got me interested in the rest of the Mega Man series because I knew one or two things about the Mega Man X series, I just never got round to playing it.

Well I may have messed up the order of events but we got a wii and didn't play much Capcom games until quite recently... TATSUNOKO VS CAPCOM!!! We were pretty pissed with the control scheme being 3 button use instead of 4/6 but I got by and good "old" brother didn't. In the end I had to end up completing it after a month (even got the score rankings to be 99 on survival for the top 20 with a variety of characters). I was pretty much bored for the time being. I heard that Mega Man 9 came out a few months ago and went to a friends place to play the demo (he didn't have the full version). After many failing attempts, we played Super Street Fighter II: HD Remix on the Xbox. I actually quite liked it (not surprising) though the graphics felt... well one thing is noticeable, playing too much Street Fighter Alpha and VS games makes it feel wierd seeing the crumpled up stances. I got used to it after a while.

A couple of months later, the day before Street fighter IV came out, I entered a competition where all the money goes to "charity" which was held by Game in shepards bush (that precise as I don't know if it was going on in other stores) where you could win a copy of Street fighter IV! The only problem is that I didn't (and still don't) have a PS3 or Xbox 360. I still entered anyway and hoped that my Ken powers wouldn't let me down. Unfortuneately, it did. I lost on the 4th battle against M.Bison (Vega in Japan). I swear, that hadouken was supposed to hit and that slide hits you even though it never touched. Then a couple of days went by and I went to the same friend's house (he is a big Street Fighter fan but also a bit of a Capcom fan) me and my brother got all the characters on his copy of Street fighter IV (we would have done it the day before but Blockbusters sold him a display box for £40 them bastards) other than Akuma, Gouken and Seth.

During the Easter holidays, everyday I went to help my friend's (the same one) brother who owns an online store all by himself (he sells Nintendo Ware if you are interested) and when a day's work is finished, I woud go to his brother's room (if you are confused, it is a friend's brother's brother in otherwords the friend) and played Street Fighter IV every day. I mastered the focus attack and managed to beat Gouken on medium (through Arcade) using Sagat (don't call me cheapo. I know he is). Not too long after, I realized he had a USB saturn pad and it worked with the PS3! I was really surprised that Sega would make one as that is my favourite controller for Beat 'em ups! Made online gameplay a lot easier than the cruddy PS3 dualshock.

At the moment, I am waiting for MMSF3 to come out in US and then I am going to import it (I have completed MMSF2 since I got that for Christmas). I think it will be worth it. I'm thinking about importing a DSi with the MMSF plates on (www.themmnetwork.com/wp-conte...it-348x4...) until I realized, DSi isn't region free. Oh darn.
