    Friday Fan Art!!!

    Friday, October 9, 2009, 01:02 PM [General]

Okay, so I'm not starting a new tradition on Unity or anything, but it IS Friday and I DO have fan art!  :)

And of course, since it's me, it must be Dark Void fan art!

This art comes to us from Tetsunasa over at DeviantArt.  Oh, and full disclosure, Tetsunasa also happens to be my twin sister and my band's bass player, and this was a birthday present.  How fantastic is that!

June a Fabulous Month for Dark Void

    Tuesday, May 19, 2009, 09:13 PM [General]

Dark Void is making the rounds with gaming press and we’ve got several top-tier appearances in gaming mags for the month of June.  Which ones, you ask?

    Well…

    GamePro

Yup, that’s Will hanging out on the cover with his buddies Ezio (Assassin’s Creed 2) and “The Rookie” (Halo 3: ODST).  Check out the June 2009 issue for a 2-page spread for a great Q&A with our lead designer.

    Play Magazine

Play delivers a quick 1-page preview as well as a couple sound bites from yours truly.  Check out their June 2009 issue for some fancy new screens.

    Edge

Yes, Edge’s DV coverage technically debuted in March, but with the time zones and global warming, I didn’t get my copy ‘til last week.  Regardless, Dark Void blasts across a beautiful 6-page spread, featuring an in-depth interview with Capcom Senior Producer (and my boss) Morgan Gray.

    More to come!

    Dark Void's New Look

    Wednesday, April 1, 2009, 03:39 PM [General]

    Hey, guys,

For months, Capcom has been keeping a REALLY BIG secret...

In spite of the interest we've seen in Dark Void so far, something wasn't right... Cell processors, complex shaders, and dual analog sticks, although modern, really don't capture the essence of what we set out to accomplish.  Additionally, extensive market research has taught us that “photo-realistic graphics" are so totally last-gen.  To that end, we’ve thrown out the last two years of development in favor of a totally new direction.
And now, since it’s finally April, I’m excited to announce some fantastic new changes to Dark Void!

     That’s right, we’re going totally 8-bit!

We've given the game a retro facelift and are currently redoing everything to fit on a 4 mega-bit cart!

The innovations don’t stop there, as the new Dark Void will be utilizing a state-of-the-art password system to track your game progress.  Why fiddle with storage devices or chance corrupted save data, when you can simply enter one of a hundred easy-to-remember 16-character alpha-numerics and load directly to your last checkpoint!  Amazing!

(This image makes simply lovely wallpaper, btw.)

I can also reveal our nifty, new cover art.

And last but not least, this announcement wouldn’t be complete without the debut of our title music, in all its 8-bit glory!

We thank you for your patience as we undertake this reboot of the game.  Trust us.  It will be so worth it!

The age of 8-bit has returned!

    Yours truly,
    The Dark Void Team

(FYI, the above 8-bit theme is actually a remix of our original theme.  It was cooked up by our game’s composer, a man who also happens to be a big fan of the classics!
Who might this retro gaming music lover be?  Well, I'm pretty sure you won't have to wait too long for an official announcement...)

Dark Void’s Humanity Blog #3: Resistance is Crucial

    Tuesday, January 27, 2009, 04:05 PM [General]

So in past Humanity Blogs we've taken a look at our fearless protagonist Will as well as our savvy genius/inventor Nikola Tesla.

So who's this strapping fellow to my left?

Let me introduce Atem (pronounced "uh-tem"), a key member of the resistance force and general all-around badass.
Without giving away too much, let’s just say that Atem acts as Will's mentor and guide and…and…well, just think of him of Han, Yoda, and Obi-wan all rolled up into one.

And before anyone gets riled up about our faceless compatriot…

    Voila!

So to break it down in visuals:

Or for you Star Trek fans out there:

    Then

Ok, so maybe it doesn't work so well with a non-hero-centric narrative like the Trek, but on the bright side, I did manage to meet my image quota for the post.

Nerdy references aside, Atem is a strong ally whose intervention could be the difference between victory and defeat within the Void.

How did he come to be in the Void?  Who was he before?  And what’s that thing on his arm?
Well, you'll just have to wait to find out.

Dark Void’s Humanity Blog #2: The Man and the Machine

    Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 03:02 PM [General]

No, your eyes do not deceive.  I did start this post with a picture of David Bowie.
"Why?" one might ask.  "What the heck does King of Awesome David Bowie have to do with my Capcom-Unity videogames blog?"
Well, that's not just any random pic of David; it's David Bowie as Nikola Tesla, and Nikola Tesla is the man behind the mystery in Dark Void.

So how much do you really know about Tesla?  I mean, beyond what you just read on Wikipedia?

Well, Nikola Tesla, brilliant inventor and "Father of Physics" that he was is said to have disappeared days before his purported death.  Shortly after an anything-but-textbook landing in the Bermuda Triangle, our protagonist Will encounters Nikola holed up with a band of resistance fighters.  Nikola's genius is what has kept this ragtag group of men and women alive and kicking for so long.  He is, without a doubt, the backbone of the resistance and quite literally the man behind the machinery.

If you know anything about Dark Void, you're probably familiar with Nikola's most famous invention.

    No, no, not the radio.
You can't put guns on a radio.

That's right.  The jetpack.  Without Nikola's ingenuity and his knack for turning Watcher tech into Survivor tech, where would Will be?  Not on the front cover of our game, that's for sure.

Random Trivia: A native Serb, Nikola Tesla's image appears immortalized on the Serbian dinar:

Enjoy a piece of Nikola Tesla concept art in the gallery.
