Street Fighter Dev Blog: Introducing Poison, Yoshimitsu, Dhalsim and Steve

Jul 27, 2011 // Snow

Dev blog for Street Fighter:

San Diego Comic Con 2011 has been in full-swing since July 22nd. With the veil of secrecy lifted we’re finally proud to announce that Poison, Yoshimitsu, Dhalsim and Steve have now joined the roster of Street Fighter X Tekken! If you’re thinking “what, really!?”, check out the official site for the trailer!

As far as fighting games go, Poison made her last playable appearance in 1999’s “Final Fight Revenge”! Of course, wherever there’s Poison, there’s “that guy”, right!?

↑Lashing out with her whip, Poison unleashes a projectile! The potential of this attack is extremely high!

Yoshimitsu has changed his appearance in every Tekken game, but for Street Fighter X Tekken, he joins the fray with his classic Tekken 3 costume!

↑Yoshimitsu’s Flea stance and Suicide move make their return! And by using your Cross Gauge you can perform an EX Suicide!

The secret character in our fifth teaser movie was none other than Dhalsim! He joins the roster as Sagat’s official tag partner!

↑How did he align himself with Sagat!? Things are becoming curiouser and curiouser…

Finally, the secret character in the sixth teaser movie is Steve! He’s Hwoarang’s official tag partner!
This two cool fighters have teamed up, one with adept punches, the other with swift kicks! Just imagining it makes my heart pitter patter!

↑Steve avoids an attack and counters! In Tekken, Steve performed this special move by pressing LK+RK. In Street Fighter X Tekken, you can perform the same move by pressing LK and MK at the same time!

We didn’t just reveal new characters today though; we also unleashed a deluge of information regarding the battle system!

Super Arts

This is a well-known feature among Street Fighter fans. Use your Cross Gauge to perform super powerful attacks!

↑Ryu’s Super Art is his Shinku Hadoken

↑The Tekken characters get brand new attacks for their Super Arts! Kazuya has been given the awesome-looking Devil Beam!

Super Charge

Depending on the button configuration, Super Charge is a feature that allows you to perform a Super Art without using your Cross Gauge!

For Ryu, after you perform a Hadoken, hold down the button…

Hold it like it’s hot, and you’ll charge up to Level 2!Ryu’s Hadoken will change to the EX version!

If you hold it all the way to Level 3, Ryu will unleash his Shinku Hadoken! This will not use your Cross Gauge!

Cross Assault

Street Fighter X Tekken’s defining characteristic is the Cross Assault! By using the Cross Gauge, you can call in your partner!

↑With good movement, you can surround your rivals! Then you can go to town on them!

Now, let’s switch gears and talk about Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike!  I’m sure the biggest things on everyone’s mind is the price and release date announcement, right?

PlayStation NetworkAugust 23, 2011: 1500 yen
Xbox LIVE August 24, 2011: 1,200 Microsoft Points

Well, what do you think!? You only have to wait just one more month! I don’t know about you, but that’s torture for me! Be sure to get your summer vacation homework done by the 23rd so you can indulge in some 3rd Strike action! To go along with the price and release date announcement, we have a new trailer to show! This is a trailer that’s full of the coolness that only 3rd Strike can offer! Check it out below!

Alrighty, finally, let’s talk about SSFIV Arcade Edition! On the Street Fighter channel, we updated our celebrity fights from last week! This second installment featured a battle between Yuu Tejima against Tetsuya Ikeda!

↑During the recording, Meijin Takahashi suddenly showed up with the first round combatants, The Tacchi. We had a small photo shoot with Yuu Tejima to celebrate the occasion. I’ll have to admit, my eyes kind of wandered… somewhere… eep.

↑A photo with Tetsuya Ikeda! I gotta thank him for picking up a copy of Arcade Edition!
In the end, would Yuu’s dynamite body win, or will Ikeda turn the tables on Yuu…? Check the result right here

Ahh, recently I’ve been trying my best not to rant for too long, so I’m going to cut this entry a bit short and save my report on the Men of Valor Recruitment Caravan event in Fukuoka until next week. However, you can check out the match videos at the link below, so please feel free whenever you have the chance!  Check it out here!

Lastly, I’ve been getting a lot of rebalance suggestions. Everyone, thanks so much! Although to be honest, from my perspective we could certainly use more! Bring ‘em on!I’m going to show everyone’s suggestions to the director, so I would really like it if you keep sending them my way! But you know, suggestions like “Make Move X weaker” would make the game boring, I think. So if you wrote suggestions like “If you power up this aspect of the character, they can have an easier time winning their bad matchups!”, that would be a lot more beneficial! I guess you can say we’re going to call it “Upper” if it really does happen, eh? That’s a big “if” though, we can only pray that Ono-san gets a chance to talk to the higher ups about it!

All right, that wraps it up for me! See you next week!
