Right, so far, i've only played the demo, and I only have a few things to add. I will add things from trailers aswell though, so the list may be long.
1. Albert Wesker, TGS 2008 Trailer. "The right to be God, that right is now mine."
2. Public execution in Africa, TGS 2008 Alternate Trailer.
"An infection of insanity (Religion), right where it all began (mankind, religion (Africa)). The right to play God. Conspirators in the shadows. Contagion (disease), Creation, Evolution, Emerging a new species. The boundaries between light and dark will be drawn. - BioHazard 5 -"
3. Interview with Jun Takeuchi.
"We settled on the fact that we really wanted to show the origin of the virus. So for the setting we thought, howabout we used the place where humankind was born? Well, I am not a scientist, so i don't know how things will "change in the future", but we thought we would use Africa, which is now called the birthplace of humanity, as the model. That's how we came to use a place in Africa as the setting for "Bio5"." - Jun Takeuchi, Director of Bio5.
-
With saying "change in the future", he means that if the religious people were to decide, they'd rather see mankind coming from "god".
Resident Evil AND Street Fighter (to a certain extent), what is some of it about? (Updated)
I just came to think about Resident Evil all of a sudden, I am awaiting Resident Evil 5 aswell as Street Fighter IV.
I was starting to think about this just now when I got to see the "Zombie Evolution" clip provided by s-kill. Lots of thanks for the heads up Seth!
What came to my mind was, why zombies? And what was the virus, really?
For some reason, I came to think about religion. Now, I myself am an atheist, atheism isn't a religion by the way. Atheist means that I do not believe in any God whatsoever without solid proof about there actually being one, which, as of now, there is no proof about the case being so.
First of all, no offense to Muslims or Christians, I respect you for being the ones you are, but I do not respect the depressing books (to be nice) you are so blindly following, however that is your choice, not mine, so I respect it.
So, we move on.
Resident Evil 1
Resident Evil 1 was being played in a Mansion as far as I can remember. I don't really know the name of where the Mansion was but Arklay Mountains sounds a bit familiar, it could've been from Resident Evil 2 though, I am not so hip with locations in Resident Evil games.
Moving that aside. - The main point of the game was to simply get home. Not so easy with zombies lurking around every corner.
So, why zombies? They are horrifying, scary, self-unaware, and can't think clearly.
These are some of the words used to describe a religious fanatic aswell. They aswell are horrifying, scary, maybe not self-unaware, but they sure can't think clearly at all times.
So what caused the Zombies?
If i'm not mistaken, it was Umbrella who created the virus which infected people and they became zombies. Ironically, the main villain in Resident Evil 1 is Albert Wesker who has been working with you in S.T.A.R.S for quite sometime as your superior, however that was just as an undercover Umbrella spy.
Tyrant is the name of the Resident Evil 1 Final Boss which I find quite hilarious now when I think about it.
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 2's whereabouts were in Raccoon City somewhere in America.
Story is that you are assigned to play as Leon Scott Kennedy, a rookie on his first S.T.A.R.S day, and what a day it would come to be.There has just been a viral outbreak in Raccoon City, and people are turning into zombies once again. The reason is Umbrella once again, I can't really recall how they did it but there was something about rats.
Resident Evil 4
This is actually when I really got thinking. When I saw the Zombies Evolution clip I simply flipped out that I hadn't taken notice to it earlier.
So, basically, you are playing Leon once again, this time you're in Spain, looking for the president's daughter who has been kidnapped. You start out in a small village and work your way through it, after a few minutes of fighting villagers you'll get a cut-scene, you'll also hear a bell ringing. Showing the villagers simply drop everything and go to where the sound of the bell came from, combining that the villagers seemed completely braindead, just walking away mumbeling Lord Saddler made me to not doubt one single second. This game is about mocking religion, and I like it. I could tell you more about it but just play through the game yourself and you'll find many things that mocks religion in this brilliantly executed game.
Resident Evil 5
Albert is back, and this time it isn't just about mocking religion, it is about mocking religion a LOT.
Started out by watching a public execution in Africa, which pretty much is basis for religious punishments, at least when it comes to Islam. Africa is also a very religious country.
Albert also finished one of the clips with "Time to play God".
Street Fighter
Ah yes, the true King of Fighters.
What made me think about Street Fighter that is so anti-religious?
Several examples however i'll just bring up the one that makes the most sense, being Gouki.
Gouki, or as some of you know him, Akuma, is one of the most popular fighters in Street Fighter.
Something not many have noticed, or might have but kept quiet about it, is that he is there to mock religion aswell. Let's have a look.
As we can see, he carries the sign of Heaven on his back. He also has a vide variety of moves which starts of in (English) Violent, or Destructive. Then we have Shun Goku Satsu, or Raging Demon. The real translation of Shun Goku Satsu is Instant Hell Murder, now, if you K.O an opponent, a huge sign will show up, and that sign is the same sign he has on his back, being Heaven.
Then we have God Gouki, also known as Shin Akuma or Shin Gouki. Now, some people say that Shin stands for True, that is true, but not the case in this matter, which can be seen here.
The sign that you can see on Gouki's back is 神人 which means God.
Now, you may speculate whether that should be seen as a Instant Hell Murder done by God, or an Instant Hell Murder done in the name of God. Just as Instant Hell Murder was done in the name of Heaven when played as normal Gouki.
Another clarifying thing is that Shin Gouki is typed out 神 (God)人(Person)豪鬼 in Japan, which basically means God Gouki. It doesn't stop there though, Gouki (豪鬼) means Demon, so in reality it becomes God Demon.
This is all very stimulating to me, and I think that there is a pretty freaking big possibility about me being completely right about these things, anyway, that is something we can speculate about.
Update
I forgot about Goukis newer moves, including Misogi (禊) meaning Purification. Also, when Gouki performs this move, he says "Oroka mono ii", which means "Enough with the stupidity!". Below is a clip which showcases the Purifier, listen closely and you will hear him say "Oroka mono ii", just as he has done the move. Do note that he does say "Kakugo wa yo ii ka" (Are you ready?!) when he does it, then he says the rest. (01:22)
Quick note: Before the match starts, Gouki says "Shin no chikara, misete mi -o!" which you would think should mean "Now I will show you my true power.". However, that's not the case. It actually is a double sentence, the real one is: "Now I will show you the power of God!". Shin = 真 (True) Shin = 神 (God). Going by who he is (God) (glowing on his back), the second sentence makes more sense than the first.
Another video where you can clearly hear what he is saying.
We also have Tenshou Kaireki Jin, which Gouki exploited to himself, and unleashed in the 3:rd Strike ending.
Tenshou Kaireki Jin () meaning either "Ascending Heaven Ocean Trampling Blade", or "Divine/Holy Murder", where the last one is the more accurate one.
