    Capcom Vs Konami

    Tuesday, June 2, 2009, 09:11 PM [General]

UPADATE: It came to my attention that bomberman isn't part of the konami world. Oops! How could i forget!?! So to make up for that, i replaced him with a twin bee down below.

I know its not the usual splice. Its not even in the same category.

But i had this strange urge to draw it.

Its not quite how i imagined it would be either. The idea came up when i had visions of belmont's whip going against a bionic arm in a hanging challenge. But in the end, neither of those characters don't even show up in the final product. I also wanted the two contra guys in their konami poses going against the two capcom lookalikes somewhere sitting atop the robots. But they were so small in the sketch, that i decided not to go with it. I also had demetri's big face in the background split with dracula, but it didn't work out either. Oh well, at least i had alucard and maria thrown in there (Sotn is my favorite game of all time).

It doesn't have any stylistic stamp of mine, but I was trying to capture the feel of the old "VS" games pics (mainly bengus' marvel vs capcom, and kinu's capcom vs snk pieces)  It took awhile to color and get all the little details, and even then theres probably a lot of inconsistencies with the characters themselves. But oh well, at least the idea is there. I also just wanted to do something where it would allow me draw alot of characters in different styles and colors. Theres still alot of flaws with it, but hopefully they're not too noticeable.

We'll be back with our daily routine with splicing, once i get done with other stuff.

I also have a few other rough "vs" ideas, so maybe we'll see more along the way. The idea is to do as many as i can, and just put em all together in one pic (and probably just have the words MUGEN somewhere in the background) haha.

    Til next time...

Bionic Megammando, Zero Dante, CammyMorrigan and more!

    Thursday, May 21, 2009, 09:41 AM [General]

    Hello folks!

Its been a long time since i last posted. I was trying to do this as a weekly thing of posting up art, but my problems with the internet stopped me from doing so.

But anyway, i got a little more time to draw and work on my craft of coloring. I haven't really had any experience with it, other than the last time i tried to paint. But finally, i now have 5 of my first photoshopped drawings in complete order of my coloring journey! no lie.

    So let the splicing commence!

    First things first.

Last time i posted something, I got my first and only comment from "cyber sasquatch" (thanks guy! nice avatar btw!, whom requested that i do a dante/zero attempt.

    and so here it is

    ZERO DANTE!

This is my first attempt at coloring. But seriously, the hardest part was putting these two together! This was a hard mix, because it took awhile for me to get the right attitude and style from both. I decided to go with the zero in trenchcoat instead, not because its easy,  but it was hard trying to make dante look comfortable in a zero suit. I have sketches as a witness to my struggle, but i'll probably post those later. I also used a different type of zero outfit, since the other one i did with the strider mix seemed too bulky. Using the art of zero book as a reference really helped alot. One thing i should've done was make the hair white instead of blonde, but oh well. It also still looks a little rough, but i'm pretty proud of it.

    And to continue...

I promised there would be less guys this time around, so here are the ladies of the mutated genre

1st up, is my second attempt at coloring

    R. TIFFANY

    R. Mika and Tiffany from rival schools. This was a pretty simple idea and i liked how it turned out. I got my first chance to do some coloring with skin and tone, and it really brought out the costume i was trying to create from the two. Plus, it was a great way to show that i can draw ladies hopefully just as well with the dudems.

    next up...

    Felicia Li...

hmm sounds like......uh, nevermind. This is really just felicia with chun li legs and some of her gear. Not really much to it than that, but at least we have an answer to all curiousness. If felicia did have anything resembling human legs, then please let them be chun li's! Color wise, this wasn't what i had hoped for, but it was good enough. I kinda went back and forth with this one, and it was a little more rushed than the others. Also, the shadow in the middle seems a little off.  But overall, the drawing proves it purpose...i think.

    moving on to...

    BIONIC MEGAMANDO!

Whoops! how'd he get in here? Don't worry, more girls will be coming along the way.

Seriously though, this is my third attempt (since my felicia one was started before this and finished after this). I spent so much time on it before i did any other ones, but hopefully the effort shows. But wow, never in a million years would i have thought to pull off something like this!  I mean i went from zero to r.tiffany and then to some hyper realistic type coloring i've never tried. To start, I just went from a simple drawing thinking how fun it would be since the new bionic commando game had just been released. But then it got all crazy. One of the main reasons for this of course was..THE ARM. Damn, what in whos name and mind had to create that!? So yeah, that is pretty much my B.S'ed version of the bionic arm since it was pretty hard to get it right. I tried drawing it from a few different poses at first, but this one seemed to be where i wanted it. Proportions are all off and the arm probably looks even more confusing than is. But on the upside, all the ways in trying to make it metallic and rusted looking helped. And from that i tried making megaman blend in just the same. He has this cool "cannon spike" vibe going on which is a plus (kinu is an inspiration).

so yeah, last but not least!

    Come again?

    HEH, GET IT! Come..morrigan? Camm..again?

    err...yeah.

I had this drawing way before the megaman one, but it just got done coloring with little time i had when i got it back. So after having went from early type gradients and realistic looking type stuff and back to simple coloring, i ended up somewhere along the anime type vibes. It was a pretty simple concept, and it was fun drawing. I also liked how it turned out, the colors really bring it to life i feel. But the sketch still reminds me more of j. scott campbells work for some reason. Its almost as if i didn't draw it. I really dig his stuff, but i feel it is not my place to copy. Although i do always try to strive for some bengus/shinkiro type attempts when drawing, which is pretty contradictory.

But anyway, this concludes our splicing for today!

I know it probably might seem a little inconsistent art wise, but it was a good exercise in putting some ideas to paper. I still don't think i've found my trademark style yet, but hopefully i'm getting better as a colorist. i still think it looks like other peoples work but oh well. i'll keep at it.

    yup.

It took awhile trying to bring em out here. But its finally done. I got some other stuff that i can't wait to show, but they're mostly unolored sketches and concepts. Right now, i'm having trouble deciding wheter i should post them in raw form or in full finished pieces. The sketching can be done pretty fast, but its the coloring i'm having trouble keeping up with, so it kinda slows down the process. But anyway, i talk too much (or type???) my question i leave you with is

"to color or not to color?" should i just post them anyway?

    oh well..

It may be awhile before i come back. Who knows how long.

But one things for sure, There will be splicing!

    thank for your time.

A few drawings lost in a blog filled with words.

    Friday, May 1, 2009, 02:40 PM [General]

JUST SCROLL DOWN FOR THE PICS, YOU DON'T HAVE TIME TO READ WHAT I'M ABOUT TO WRITE. WELL, UNLESS YOU WANT TO.

Hey there, 1st time post and newly signed member here in the unity. To start, i wanted to contribute by using this blog as some buildup of ideas for getting me to draw. Any requests (free commsions, random thoughts, something cool for your avatar) are welcomed. Don't know if i'll have time to do everything, but even if i don't it would be the nice to get sketching again with some fresh ideas.

So to start, here is a little project i'll be doing called "splices" (or amalagams, mashups, fusions, mutations, etc). I'll be using only "capcom" characters for now, and maybe going somewhere further with it later. Keep in mind these sketches are kinda bare. My photoshopped coloring skills aren't up to match.

But anyway, i talk too much. Lets get started on some curious ideas i've had!

    megmanjoe

Viewtiful Megaman? Mega Viewtiful man? Yeah, couldn't find a good name mixing Viewtiful and Megaman so i chose to use the Joe instead. Anyway, its probably been done before, but i've always been curious. Its a little choppy in some parts, but i think it was a pretty good warm up to whatever i was trying to do.

    STRIDERZ0

I tried to mix things up using strider and zero armor. But it ended up being something along the lines of shredder, deathbird (from x-men), and maybe even thor thrown in there. I guess you can't really tell with the pencils, but hopefully with color it'll have something at least resembling zero.

    Photobucket

This probably looks like the better combination, and more of what i was going for. I think its pretty cool to have two versions of something in case one overwhelms the other half. I think i'll do another one using both the tonfa and sabre in action.

    shenakuma

AKA GOUKI/GOUKEN, or old balding akuma from the looks of it. Ah well, i tried.

While we're on SF4 territory, here was a quick drawing to see how crazy it would be if the real SETH turned out to be the last boss in the game. Really sketchy and a little on the disturbing. But if you're curious...

    Photobucket

Man, maybe this was a bad idea. Reminds me of that flasher from observe and report. Hence, the censored capcom sign.

Well, that's it from me. But it won't be the last of these so called "splices". I'll be back with more, and next time it'll definetely have less guys.
