Street Fighter IV: Arcade Champion Rankings

Dec 09, 2008 // s-kill

There’s a battle raging for supremacy in the insanely competitive world of arcade Street Fighter IV.

It’s a fight between Ojisan , a relative newcomer to the upper echelons of fighting game royalty, and Daigo Umehara (yeah, that guy ), revered as perhaps the greatest Street Fighter ever to play the game and recently called the “God” of all fighting games by the Japan’s renowned Arcadia Magazine .

1st  Ojisan Boy  103165 BP
2nd  Umehara  100127 BP
3rd  Mago  94829 BP

What are Battle Points (“BP”)?  Basically you get them for winning matches.  You get ~10 points for weak or new opponents, and up to 100+ for beating an opponent as strong as you are.  You can’t grind Battle Points (“BP”) the way you could do with XP in an MMO, however, because not only do you have to beat opponents at or above your level to score points quickly, you also lose points if you lose a match.  This makes the achievement of these players all the more impressive—they aren’t just consistently winning, they are winning against the other uber players.

Although Ojisan has recently passed Daigo on the leaderboards, Daigo positively spanked him at a recent faceoff .  Who will end up the true arcade champion?  We’ll have to wait until the finals of our official tournament in January.

Stay tuned!
