I think that if Vega were to win lots of tournies he would rise up quite a bit, because that would mean someone magically found some new crazy ways to win with him and nullify most disadvantages in most match-ups. Metagame analysis, which includes the discovery of combos, playing styles and broken stuff (Akuma ;p), influences a lot tourny play. The thing is, all characters start from zero. And then, it's basically an arms race. Whoever finds the most tactics and broken moves get their characters to top tier. In the end, the lowest tier characters are the most well programmed and designed. |

Well, Wikipedia has some good articles on SF, may it be about the gameplay, the characters and their stories. You should check it out. ^^ |

I just have a suggestion... I think that frame data should be a part of this computation. Maybe a point system for each move that will cleanly beat another move (incluing normals) .... considering the damage etc etc... i don't know... it may complicate stuff but it might produce more accurate results. |

Frame data is an aspect that we cannot study because of the lack of means we have to calculate it. But if anyone can do it, we would happily take the results produced by the research to anaylse them. As for the move point system, I believe it would be completely impossible to do because its creation supposes generalising every move's efficiency in the game. And by that I mean that every character has a different set of moves, and each one of these moves have their particular uses, depending on the character. For that reason you cannot really decide that one gets more points by having a better fierce kick than someone who has a better jab punch. Maybe I didn't understand exactly what you meant, but anyway, you can still create ranking lists for each move, which would be pretty useful. ^^ |

People who play to win, for one. People also like to know if they character they like is 'good.' Sadly the most common use of tier lists is for people to complain, though. Complain about characters being too good, complain about characters being too bad, complain about everything.
Complain, complain, complain. |
