Streetfighter IV and the european tournament arrogance...

Dear Capcom and Seth Killian.

Thank you so much for not letting me participate in the european tournaments. Offcourse I don`t live in your targeted countries and there isn`t really any point in having players from a small country like mine, we`re all noobs anyway right?

I completely understand the unsurmountable obstacles of including scandinavian countries for this tournament. The workload for pulling off something like this is certainly not worth it considering the small communities that play these games in those countries. It`s not like people went all the way and bought costumes and other dlc anyway.

And finally a big warm thanks to Seth Killian for not speaking up to the managers at Capcom. To make Streetfighter IV tournaments a worldwide phenomenom would be just as bad for business as it would be detrimental to make a big install base.

Love

Well its not really fair to try and target Seth for it right. I'm living in Ireland so of course Capcoms tournment decided I too was unworthy of a chance to enter and to hit me with a double whamy, I own the ps3 version which it seeems is a no no for getting a chance in the european tournement anyway.

Still though, dont go targeting one dude who works at Capcom US. It blows but to see how much Capcom europe cares about you just compare our special edition ressi 5 to US or Japans.

I wrote the post in anger, Dale. I wanted to edit it afterwards but I`m new to the forums and it just loads forever when I try to edit. I posted the same message without the Seth Killian remark on the Capcom-Europe forums (which I found out about after my post here...).

I still think Mr. Killian could have remarked upon the unfairness off the whole thing though. Europe is a hell of a lot larger than England, France, Italy, Spain and Germany.I will list a few that come to mind: Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Chech Republic, Slovakia, Greece, Turkey, Norway, Sweden, Finland... The list goes on and on.

The equvalent in the US would be to only allow California, Texas, Washington, Alabamba and New York St. residents to enter a US national tournament.

This tournament is rubbish or "søppel" in my native toungue.

Major tournaments in the US tend to revolve around high concentration areas as well. Pro players are known to journey cross-country, at times well over a thousand miles, to compete at well known events.

Granted, they don't need a passport, but anyone who has the will to compete has to put forth at least some amount of effort. Some more than others. Just last week I drove 4 hours (200 miles) to compete at SBO qualifiers.

Shoot.

You viking types have a decent internet infrastructure over there as well for the most don't you?  Even the relatively rural areas have decent connections unlike us in good old Blighty.

Another thing from talking to chaps in Sweden and Norway etc, i recall games don't have quite that same silly stigma that lingers on still in some countries.

You still get a few odd-bods give a little giggle if you say you enjoy games over here but no one gives a toss about all that really, but gaming does from what i've heard get  "embraced" by the yoofs in those colder places don't they.

I've met  a fair few very skilled SF players from Scandanavia too so to be left out is bad form.  There's definately a hardcore SF fanbase who deserve a fair pop at things with the rest of Europe.

Capcom owe you chaps a bit of recognition and need to include a beserker viking death-metal biker type in the next game Smile

Thanks for the support Bailz! Since Capcom-Europe seems to be a pretty dead site, (who can blame people, why is that site even there?) I`ll keep posting in this thread. When I get home I`ll try to just tamper with my country-setting on the xbox.

Somebody here had a point about travelling far to get to tournaments, and I understand completly that you hold tournaments in densely populated areas. I would travel to such a qualifier. But on the internet? I would have a much better connection playing with somebody from Great Britain than a spaniard playing with a german.

It`s not very hard to include all europan countries in this tournament and in the long run it would make capcom and microsoft more money, because it would make e-sports more legitimate.

I`m also really sorry on behalf of the PS3 users. This should be a tournament with the best players not just the best players on 360 in assorted countries. To call it a European Championship is a big slap in the face to fans.

It is what it is my friend.  SFVI @ EVO this year will be on PS3.  How do u think 360 owners feel about that?  As a 360 owner myself, all I can do is shrug my shoulders and purchase a PS3 controller, and most likely sell it afterwards Frown
