Why do you think Marvel Vs Capcom 2 is not getting the HD treatment? It's because it suffers the same problem as SFIII. There's just way too many frames of animations to redraw, and Marvel Vs Capcom 2 is more popular than SFIII outside of Japan.

So you see, it has nothing to do with popularity.

SFIII HD Remix would be brilliant... But it will probably hurt Capcom's sales (I think).

Care to elaborate?

Sales records will tell you it's the least popular sf, and it has too many frames to individually draw.

Yes it's hard work. But would the game be great? Would you make all your friends buy it? In the end that's all that matters. Put a Final Fantasy sized team on the game and see if it's doable in a relatively short time.

For the company the biggest factor is sales, long term or short term, the game has to make a profit and the bigger the scope (and with it the potential risks and investments) the bigger the potential profit needs to be. Will it be worth while. Chances are that people would rather see all the SFIII games combined in a single entity, then have 6 of the most missed characters added to the game in it's current quality and do a rebalance with everything in online mode. TAll that will be so much quicker to do and sell much better. Then again if you do make it in HD one day that would be worth while, not on initial sales, but still on the long run. Because...

We all know that if they did draw the sprites that size with that quality of animation we could ride those sprites not for 10 years, but for 20 years to come. How many games is that? Say 1 game each 2 years, it is still 10 games, that cuts the work down to a lot less per title.

Once you start to really look into sprites you will start to see it as an art, and it instantly draws you in. You'll start to prefer it above a lot of other options.

I can't to be honest, I can't see how it would hurt their sales now SFIV is around and more people are curious to play SFIII plus the fans it already had, but SFIII didn't do particularly well, guess I was basing it on the past.

SFIII wasn't used much afterwards, mostly because the sprite style didn't mix that well with their other titles, if it had slightly been more competible the work would have been much more useable in all titles afterwards. Think Marvel vs Capcom 2, Capcom vs SNK 1 and 2.

Some Classics: SFA3 Max, SFIII 3rd Strike.

Classic: An artistic work of lasting worth exhibiting timeless quality.

I would think that hand drawn animations would be cheaper than pixel drawn sprites.  Would have figured it'd be a lot easier to import such things into a game these days.

I really hope that they will pick up and make SFIII "re-released". I could think of that if presented right to the currently big SF4 scale of players dozens and dozens of them would get into SFIII, because its such a masterpiece of game. SF4 cant offer what SFIII is capable off. And ofc the over-wintered hardcore players would go online and beat the living **** outta everyone :). Its too bad they release such much new titles ex alpha and not remake sf3 instead. a little miss actually, atleast what i think. I really hope they'll re-release this ridicously good game again. by scolly i do!

We dont need redrawn sprites but touch them up, in HD if possible, would be fine. Capcom needs to be able to compete against KOFXII now that its coming out soon. I can list 3 main reasons why we NEED a SFIII rebalance & upgrade.

1) 3S is so horribly unbalanced

2) 3S is 10 yrs old

3) SFIII is the least ported/upgraded of any street fighter, yet its the best & most indepth.

It goes without saying that of course its gonna be expensive to make. If SNK can make KOFXII then Capcom can upgrade & rebalance an already existing game. Its not like they are working from the ground up. If they can make a huge risk to make something like SFIV, make an anime movie for it too yet SFIII doesnt even have one, then whats the big deal of making an upgrade of an already existing game thats extremely popular & competitive amongst hardcore gamers and that people love and know and have been playing for over 12 yrs. Not to mention the fact that all these SFIV people are curious about SFIII now. Those who've never heard of it, never played it, and once they do they'll realize which game is more indepth and better overall and realize why its lasted all these yrs and is STILL at EVO & SBO. In fact I just watched SBO7 Quals and it was some really good stuff.

We deserve, by now, something fresh and new for the SFIII series. And a simple '3S for PS3' aint gonna cut it. And its not worth putting on any new consoles anyways when people can play it for free on 2DF Free Play. 3S is the #1 most played game on 2DF and it lags on GGPO so everyone has flocked over to 2DF for 3S. Thus its mandatory for Capcom to feel obligated to for once quit shunning the SFIII fans & series and throw us a bone.

Ive already made huge efforts on the technical aspect of a rebalance. I just need to get around to typing up all of the 40+ pages of info from my notebook. Once I do I wont hesitate to submit it to capcom since Im sure they have no idea of where to start and my rebalance will be a great start & be an amazing guideline.

On a sidenote, it doesnt take a genius to see for yourself and realize that SFIV has died down already amongst many people. It simply has too many problems and for me personally is just boring and too slow to watch.

Parrying nullifies balance problems, age doesn't matter, graphics are still good, so what that there aren't enough ports, SFIII3S isn't KoF (DLC $20 Vs. KoF $60 retail), and the game not being made isn't due to the developers not knowing what you know.

That will be all

It might be only a detail compared to the rest of your post, but I'd never go as far as saying SFIII 3rd Strike is horribly unbalanced. Because the game is in fact more balanced than most other fighting games out there. Just because the game is played for over 10 years the minor imbalances are really abused to their fullest, and that's why it's starting to look like major imbalance.

Some Classics: SFA3 Max, SFIII 3rd Strike.

Classic: An artistic work of lasting worth exhibiting timeless quality.

so what that there aren't enough ports

People can't play it. How is that not an issue?

Capcom doesn't owe it to anyone to make the game and especially not a remix. People can play it on Anniversary collection.
