Online Play (Possible troll alert)

This is kind of a troll thread, which is why I have been hesitant about posting. Anyway, here goes.

Have any of you (the good, level headed guys on this forum, you know who you are) ever gotten sick of playing online? I am stuck in G2, and it's turning into a real buzz kill. Occasionally, I get matched up and it's some one good and I have a great time playing, win or lose. Lately, I found that there has been a great deal of people who play extremely defensively, not the skillful "I have a defensive play style" players, but people who just sit back even when they are behind in a fight, waiting to block and counter. When I am in the mood to boost my GP I would be more patient, but when I am out to have fun, playing these guys really turn into work. As in it bores and tires me to play through them. Often times, I just rush in, since I was there for the entertainment, and I didn't really care if I win or lose. But if I do run into someone like this, 3 games in a row, I end up just turning it off. And yes, I can throw them etc. and it's not like they have an impenetrable fortress going on, but it just gets boring, wouldn't you feel the same way when you have to do the same thing over and over again? Before, I recall a time when I would move 1000GP a session, now, I always end up playing for 15 mintutes (1 or 2 tournements pending if I win or not) and shutting down. So it's like a double edged sword, either suffer and play through and tough it out till I get to G1 (I assume they are at least good if they are defensive) or, quit every 15 minutes and reach G1 at a later time.... Uggg, since when did playing video games become work? Not sure if you guys out there feel the same way, but this has been eating me away from a week or two now...

An example of the unskillful defensive:

I play a gief who didn't lariet, didn't attack, he jumped back the entire time, till he reached the back end of the screen, not moving, and only jumping over fireballs. I got hit like twice jumping in, but either way I had his health down to maybe 5% and I still had a bit over half. I stopped moving. He just stood there, we starred at each other for like 5 seconds, and with like 15 seconds left, I got really pissed and frustrated. So i jumped in for the kill. I was fine with my stratgey, and then my thumb slipped off my controller, and of course he ended me with his ultra. Granted that was 1 round, and I ended up winning anyway. You see what I mean? I could have easily waited it out, but what's the fun in that? I often find myself being the aggressor in online battles, and I honestly can't see what fun the opponent is experiencing when he just sits there. I am not saying just attack and don't block, but really, you're just gonna sit there? I find this in a lot of giefs, blanka's, ryus (waiting for the upper cut ultra), bisons, chuns, the list goes on. Please help me understand.

The rant/ trolling stops here. Tell me it's a troll thread and I will delete it =)  (I can do that right?)

lol I'm in G2 also but I actually have not run into these turtling types very often, luckily. There are some who play defensively and some annoying akuma but it's not too bad. It does feel like work though no matter how you look at it cause there are so many tournaments you need to win for G1 that it makes them less meaningful and it feels like you're pushing your way through match after match sometimes not realizing if you're in the second battle or final battle cause it all feels the same. Granted, there are some fun tournaments here and there but there are also some annoying ones so you just gotta endure I suppose.

I'm pretty sure any sentence that begins with "Have you ever gotten sick/annoyed/frustrated (in SFIV)" I'll agree with.

I know what you mean.

I am fed up of fighting the lariat spamming Zangiefs, the attack and run Blanka's, the stand back Hadouken/Shoryuken spamming Ryu's, and the lame Guile users that use the same damn moves..

I love a smash mouth fight, and I hate playing cat and mouse with people ¬¬

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Funny thing though, after posting this thread, I played again later at night, and went three tourneys in a row without encountering "those types". Even in the match I lost after, it was against someone legitimate. =) I think it was the longest session of gaming I have had in weeks (13 fights, except my match against Mo). LOL

G1 is pretty the same. A lot of defensive players who want to do nothing but punish you after you missed or your attack being blocked. Whatever.. I still keep attacking them. If I miss too much I'm losing for sure but if I not - they're dead meat. Ryus with such waiting strategies are so pathetic you know... I mean the guy has everything but still he need to turtle hard against Vega (easy to punish character) to win... and those free and easy bonus to SRK Ultras or Supers of his... Quite pathetic. They just require a lot of patience from you. Not skills. And boring, yeah...

"those people" are definitely out there. I create matches and seem to have a lot less of them than when I join matches for some reason...

Just got to G2 and I thought 'few' no more $hit bags spamming the place up....

......I was either right for a short while or very lucky, every competitior I faced when I first went into G2 were great. I had good exciting fights and they were mainly over 8000GP. If I won or lost it didnt matter because they were good entertaining fights.

recently (last couple of nights) im fighting people who have just broken out of G3 like me and its just like being in G3 again..... GUTTED :(

Its a question of whats entertaining for people I think..... Im entertained by great fights even if I lose by a mile, I think the majority of people on here are like this. Then there are the majority of net players who just play to win and win at any cost.

I must admit I like to win but it isnt the end of my world if I dont, a good fight is more important to me... you learn a lot more from fighting one great opponenet then 600 who are not so great, and you remember the great fights...

Sorry if I have gone on a bit... been offline for a couple of days.... not been able to paly SF for a couple of days.... you know how it is ;)
