I would not say it's a troll topic, but you're just put off from the waiting and counter stragedy you speak of. The CE mode hasn't changed in that aspect for me, but I don't mind it. I mostly play close range and I seem to fair against them. I resort to corner traps and use baiting against them, if I'm unable to exploit them in middle range. Sometimes I get insulted from them by it and was put on their block list for what I did, but they leave me no other choice. I personally think that this type of style rewards players the most, for defense.

Its even worse in G1.

Almost all the matches ive been it it been nothing but wait and counter. And I mean they wait the whole freaking match, like ryu users wont even shoot hadokens they will just sit and wait for you to either jump in or D+MK.

Dont expect much variety in G1 either. For the most part 85% of G1 is Ryus. Im not kidding, the other 10% is jump back spam tiger fagats while the last 5% is skilled players who use Seth, Rufus, M.bison, Balrog, Blanka, and El Fuerte.

Defensive Giefs suck especially if you're using Bison, and Chun has so little health that one slip and an Ultra from him will kill you. D:

G2 seems to have a lot of them, makes me feel like playing shotos out of the annoyance of having to deal with that crap. This is why I don't really play CM or RM much, they're usually not much fun. Heck, player matches can be better.

Idunno, not quite to G1 yet.  Still working thru G2.  Typically i do run into alot of that spam, and turtle up defense type players.  But last night and earlier today, i can honestly say i sent alot of "GG" messages to players.  Had some great matches.  I use blanka as my primary, and i love to play him aggressively.  Somewhat wreckless at times, but its fun.  I honestly dont think it'll change much in G1 really.  They will likely just be "better" at whatever technique they are using.  Be it a turtle up, or spam, they'll likely have the timing down even better.  To make it simple, its not really about whats fun for these guys.  Its the magic "GP" they earn for the win, and they'll do anything to get it.  Very annoying at times, but we have no choice really, but to fight em.  Im focusing on controlling my own "anger" (lol), and learning to beat these guys that annoy me.  Luckily we have 2 new fight games coming up real soon (blazblue, KOFXII), that'll help give a break from the SF4 scene when i feel i need anger management.

This is kind of a troll thread, which is why I have been hesitant about posting. Anyway, here goes.

Have any of you (the good, level headed guys on this forum, you know who you are) ever gotten sick of playing online? I am stuck in G2, and it's turning into a real buzz kill. Occasionally, I get matched up and it's some one good and I have a great time playing, win or lose. Lately, I found that there has been a great deal of people who play extremely defensively, not the skillful "I have a defensive play style" players, but people who just sit back even when they are behind in a fight, waiting to block and counter. When I am in the mood to boost my GP I would be more patient, but when I am out to have fun, playing these guys really turn into work. As in it bores and tires me to play through them. Often times, I just rush in, since I was there for the entertainment, and I didn't really care if I win or lose. But if I do run into someone like this, 3 games in a row, I end up just turning it off. And yes, I can throw them etc. and it's not like they have an impenetrable fortress going on, but it just gets boring, wouldn't you feel the same way when you have to do the same thing over and over again? Before, I recall a time when I would move 1000GP a session, now, I always end up playing for 15 mintutes (1 or 2 tournements pending if I win or not) and shutting down. So it's like a double edged sword, either suffer and play through and tough it out till I get to G1 (I assume they are at least good if they are defensive) or, quit every 15 minutes and reach G1 at a later time.... Uggg, since when did playing video games become work? Not sure if you guys out there feel the same way, but this has been eating me away from a week or two now...

An example of the unskillful defensive:

I play a gief who didn't lariet, didn't attack, he jumped back the entire time, till he reached the back end of the screen, not moving, and only jumping over fireballs. I got hit like twice jumping in, but either way I had his health down to maybe 5% and I still had a bit over half. I stopped moving. He just stood there, we starred at each other for like 5 seconds, and with like 15 seconds left, I got really pissed and frustrated. So i jumped in for the kill. I was fine with my stratgey, and then my thumb slipped off my controller, and of course he ended me with his ultra. Granted that was 1 round, and I ended up winning anyway. You see what I mean? I could have easily waited it out, but what's the fun in that? I often find myself being the aggressor in online battles, and I honestly can't see what fun the opponent is experiencing when he just sits there. I am not saying just attack and don't block, but really, you're just gonna sit there? I find this in a lot of giefs, blanka's, ryus (waiting for the upper cut ultra), bisons, chuns, the list goes on. Please help me understand.

The rant/ trolling stops here. Tell me it's a troll thread and I will delete it =)  (I can do that right?)

I dont know, it depends on who your facing and who you play with. I play with honda, and he can't throw fireballs or set up opponents for an ultra as far as i know. You dont see me making a thread about that struggle. Ironically some body sent me hate mail for waiting and countering during a match.

This hatemail coming from a flowchart ken user that did the samething. When i would OFFENSIVELY attack him with a LP headbutt, it would miss and he'd always use that to his advantage and kick me. (wait and attack). Thats disrespectful to me, not really sayin that to you, for somebody to say that and make it seem like I dont work hard and earn my wins is foolish.

I gotta jump over fireballs all day longggg. SAGAT, RYU, KEN, CHUN LI, GUILE, SAKURA, AKUMA, GOUKEN, ETC... Man I worked hard to get to 15245 gp. REAL TALK

I understand that charge characters need to hold "back" to charge. However, I hope you are not telling me that you are holding down/back and charging the entire match, only releasing when you attack with your special moves. It's one thing to play defensively, it's another to wait (by waiting, I literally mean all 99 seconds of it). Even with Honda, you can move around and charge, correct? My point was directed towards people who just sit back the entire match, and not saying that they are not skillful (though most I have encountered are (note: most, not all) ), but I am saying that when I keep playing these people, it discourages me to keep playing, since SF is a form of entertainment for me, and it becomes tiresome and boring when I see that 5 matches in a row.Hence this thread. It is not a form of attack, rather, a question seeking opinions to further understanding.

Cluschis is a good honda player. I'm not sure if he plays defensively since when I ran into him in champ mode, I was seeking him out but he got me 3rd round.

I just quit.  Rank be damned.

Fun > Rank.

I can quit and relaunch game/find another match faster than sitting and waiting for the current one to end.  I've timed it.
