Noticed somthing really cool yesterday. If you watch the yellow ticks that trace your opponedt's lifebar when they're hit, the very instant it touches the outside edge is when you should do your next move. Was a lifesaver when I finally got back to trial mode.

That said, big combos are great crowd pleasers, but it's your fundamentals that wins you your fights. I wouldn't recomend trial mode to a new player untill they have a better understanding of the game.

Well the main thing that is important is that you find a character that you naturally do well with. Even if your bad, there is at least one character your less bad with, then you move on from there. Sometimes, your better with a character you may not like, but generally, the character you like is the one you find yourself playing well. I like Blanka/Guile/Gen and they happen to be my best characters.

From finding your character, the best thing to do is learn the other characters. Sure mastering that 7 hit combo with Cammy is nice and flashy... But it is substantially important to know things like that Boxer (Balrog) can jab punish a blocked horiz ball. Or who's ultra goes through projectiles, or that to block Blanka's ultra you *have* to block low-high-low up close.

It is all about knowing your enemy, for instance, I dont get much practice against
Seth, so Paul (in the forums) beat me I think 4/5 fights... All the fights were close, but I didnt know how to counter certain situations such as properly timed sonic boom teleport crossups. Using that one technique that I didnt know how to counter, he beat me several times. Once I learned it the fights got a lot closer and I managed to win one.

This also means if down the road you decide that youd liek to switch characters. You know that characters benefits and what attacks counter what. A friend of mine uses Cammy, and because of that I know her tricks pretty well. Because of that, on the occasion I use her randomly, I know how to use her moves against other characters

For which characters does this hold true?  I know the timing to continue onto the next move varies with the cancel combos, especialy.

The fundementals are indeed called fundementals for a reason; however, in G-1 the best players tend to utilize each hit to its maximum linking capacity. This I noticed when I fought TongariDan, especially, and the reason I lost to him, I think. Each of his hits turned into a chain of hits.

...no, I won't play you again.

I noticed it in Sakura's hard trials, and those of Cammy's that I felt like doing at the time. Looked good in all the normal lvl 5's I remember playing as it's how I figured out the timing. Not too sure about cancels though, I just ran to the button ASAP.

Real talk on fundamentals vs combos. That comment was directed twards the OP, who hasn't quite grasped the subtlties of the game yet. Eventually everyone must graduate to bigger and better things, but untill he's got a handle on the basics, the trials will give him little more than frustration.

I've been using Ryu... Couldn't get past Seth, and I gave up.

I feel so pathetic here. I had no idea I would suck this horribly. I was the kid who would dominate the Marvel VS. Capcom 2 machine at the local arcade. But I'm useless on here.

Really?  I've gotten like so many perfects on the CPU Seth with Ryu, though admittedly, I had such a hard time with him at first, but not as hard as when I was fighting Gill...geez.  It's not that you suck though, okay.  Just got to know how the characters move.  But here's the trick with Seth or any other character played by the CPU.  They're impusive.  With Seth, he has a weakness, his Dhasim punch.  You move backward and do a split second forward jump kick when he does the Dhalsim punch or sonic boom or that vacuum thing he does and continue with a combo of your choice.  Stay in one spot and wait for that swing kick he does and smack him with a shoryuken.  And just repeat it to get him to see stars.  If no shoryukens at your disposal.  Block and punch him.  He'll repeat the swing kick.  Hit him again...and so on.  Not that tough when you know how he is.  This is on the Hardest level too.  Try it out.  It works using any character.

CPU abel is the same.  Don't be an attacker but use his movement as his enemy, like Judo.  The key is throwing him when he's rolling forward.  That's where he's vulnerable.  When gets up, deliver a quick blow which he's block, but continue moving backward.  If he does the roll, throw him again.  When you've got a super or Ultra, just predict where the roll ends, and start it right there.

I also hear you main C. Viper, but got no answers for her right now.  I'm still figuring her out.  Viper and Dhalsim just don't fit with my style of play I guess.

I also go through periods of self loathing in the game. I hate the fact that I'm considered a pretty good Vega user, yet I can't do his 1st hard trial......I suck! In fact I've only managed to complete to complete 5 hard trials with any of the characters. Still, it has little bearing on your ability as a versus fighter or against the arcade...

AW man really? I've got almost every character done. Vega's was pretty tough if you want i can give you some tips. You need to rock some of his icons. I could make a video tut of them if you want.

Normally I'm not so horrible with Street Fighter. I'm actually typically quite good with fighting games. I can murder anyone in Marvel VS. Capcom 2. But, man... Even on Medium and Easy difficulties, I can't get past round three in Arcade Mode.

Tips?

Play smart, figure out all your characters moves and hits' distance.
