Which is so lame. =( Man-li needs more health.
@Adrian- There's a huge difference though, you have to be at a certain distance to connect the ultra off her lightining leggs, or ex sbk, or that one combo that knocks them in the air. Then there's the fact that you might not get the full ultra and the timing being stricter as well as having it a charge ultra over a double quarter circle motion.

lol, I said it could be done, never said it would be easy =). I don't think distance matters, at least not for the command combo, but yes, timing is very important, especially when you want to have to ultra finish with kicking them in the air for more damage. Oh but I think the the command combo into the ultra, you have finish with them being against the wall, otherwise, the second part of the ultra won't connect. All I am saying is that you dont have to limit yourself to countering opportunities when it comes to chun's ultra. |

I know, my main point is how much harder it is for her than others. Distance does matter because no matter what, if you're comboing them into an ultra you need the corner in order to get the full Ultra. If you're too far then the most you can get is 2 hits, and if you're a bit off you won't get as much damage or as many hits in. You certainly don't have to limit yourself to countering oppurtunities when it comes to Chun, but most characters don't have as much difficulty with their ultras.

I do agree that it is more difficult, but I think she has a lot of other things to offer, her normals' short start up, her specials' short recovery. Her double hit on the jumping HP makes for good mix up. (Do I keep blocking high or do I block low? lol) which works well as a hit confirm to start a string of combos. Not to say that everyone should play like a pro, but when I watch Nemo's or Nuki's chun, I am just like, "wow there so much depth to her!" But yea, the learning curve is steep. I think the same applies to a lot of characters though. Like Ryu might be easier to pick up for beginners, but at a higher level of play, I think a lot of players hit a barrier where they really can't advance much further, i.e. completely utilizing his ground game, and not using his jump ins, (I think best example of this would be some of the Daigo v Mago matches), or even John Choi. Like Chun, I believe Viper is one of the tougher characters to pick up (extremely low health too!). What I think is that we can't challenge the balance of the game when we are just inspecting the beginners to mediocore players (not that you are either) but I think every characters has something different to offer at different levels of play. |

lol, don't know what I was thinking when I typed that... in retrospect, it didn't make much sense, and if it did, it's not like other's can't do it...=( |

You see, the problem then comes to the fact that most characters, especially Shotos, have more than enough tools to defeat Chun. Yeah she has many combos but they get beat out by most normals and special movies, especially her target combo, good players know it's coming and either use moves that can beat it out of the air or AA her out of it Both Nemo and Nuki are great Chun players, but have you seen them win a tournament with Chun Li? Also, how often do they actually use target combos and any of her other moves compared to the usual zoning with fireballs, 3x LK -> ex legs, or just counter ex srk? Most of her moves aren't as safe, can be beaten, or less rewarding. Not only that she's very punishable and can't take damage worth squat.

I can't say much in depth since I am not a chun li user. I play around with all characters, but not nearly good enough to really say anything, I just know her move sets, combos, but as far as match ups go, I can't say since I lack the experience. I do know that Nemo qualified for SBO using Chun (in fact, he saved Mago's ass in the finals I think, if not finals, one of the earlier rounds. And I was under the impression that Nuki and running the "beauty and the beast" routine with Daigo (not sure about that one)? As for the command combo, I mean it's not like you are gonna do it out of the blue right? You combo into it or start it after a level 2 focus. I think Justin used Chun in one of the GameStop rounds as well. Though the competition is probably not even close to being at the same level as him, he displayed a wide variety of mix ups upon the opponents wake up. Again, can't really say much, since I don't know much =) |

The fact still remains, it'll get beaten out by most other movies if you attempt the target combo. Nemo qualified yes, but again has Nemo won a tournament with her? Justin used Rufus throughout the Gamestop Tournament and won with him. Wong did use Chun early on but he has since left her behind for Rufus and his other main characters. Honestly, I don't think Chun sucks or anything, I just don't think she's as great as you make her out to be. I do enjoy playing with her but it's by no means as easy getting a win as I felt you were saying.

Ah, if only Chun-Li's Ultra would go all the way and actually grab the crap out of her opponents like her Ultra can -_-
Anyway there's updating to be done
