Yeah, its predictable for the regular ultra. But not when he has like 3 other ways to go into the ultra. lol spin kick in the corner into an ultra. 1 ex hadouken, dash cancel while you are in the air briefly, then ultra. bam 2 the most popular srk, dash cancel into his ultra. bang 3 yep |

Don't forget anti-airing with a LP SRK -> Ultra. And Ryu can just EX Hadoken in the corner -> Ultra, without the Dash Cancel. Remember that while he has so many ways to make his Ultra hit, it still subdues to massive damage scaling. |

This^ It doesnt do anywhere near the damage of most of the Ultras in the game and like Tofma said almost impossible to land just throwing it out. p.s. you can jump anti air MP, Ultra... another classic lol

Not gonna lie, I love Ryu and I don't think he's too cheap or overused at all. I haven't seen many Ryu's in G2 nor in player matches. It's mostly Blankas, Bob Sagats, and I even run into quite a bit of Gens in the finals. I am a Ryu player myself so I understand what some people mean when they think Ryu pressures people too much with his ultra, but he also has his cons. The recovery from his Metsu is long and open for any attack if whiffed. His HP shoryuken also can be punished easily if whiffed. The best character to go against Ryu is Sagat/Abel since Sagat just has so much more priority and range and Abel can counter him pretty well. Nevertheles, he's still a very good character. My advice for going up against Ryu would be to NEVER EVER jump in on him/rush and tech throw him whenever you see an opening (especially if you main Balrog)/if the Ryu player makes a mistake, don't be afraid to come at him. Characters like Rufus and Bison would want to come at him with their ground tactics. If using Gouki, zone him to death and (if possible) get in for some nasty combos (The Momochi vs Daigo sets are very good examples). I hope this helps. |

Umm... JiTAE Ryu is the most used character in the game, period. Also, he has no reason to EVER use HP shoryuken. And his super and Ultra can be combo'ed numerous ways, so he has no reason to do it in a situation where it might whiff. You're also implying Rufus HAS a ground game. Which as a Rufus player I have to disagree with. He has ground pokes, but no ground GAME per-se. Ryu isn't unbeatable by Rufus at all, I do it all the time, but it's tough and just staying on the ground isn't really an option for Rufus. Staying CLOSE to the ground, he can do. |
