Hi, like Phil, I'm a big fan too. However, there are many issues plaguing the PS3 version of online play. It seriously takes away from the fun of the product, a product people paid for. I'll list stuff I've found while playing HDR.
- Hitbox detection during online play. Seriously broken! I'm talking about stuff that doesn't happen offline that happens online. Even with sub 80 ping connections. Example: Vega's crouching medium punch will be hit by Ryu/Ken/Akuma/Guile/Cammy's crouching high kick from just about anywhere on the screen. This does not happen in offline, even when Vega is about 1 character away. I've checked offline with hitboxes on, and there is no reason this should be happening! Even if you factor in lag, there is about 1 hitbox space between the two! You can test in Ryu's stage and count roof shingles from the bottom of the claw hitbox to the top of anyone's foot. Plenty of space! - Doing a wall spear with Vega will often "bump" into the character, but do no damage, no chip damage, or anything. It kind of just whiffs, even though there should obviously be something. Highly aggravating. It happens while people jump, while they block, and even while they stand there doing nothing! Since the move is so unreliable I'm always hesitant to use it, which sucks because when it does actually work its quite good for keep away. I'm going to say this is probably an issue with online hitbox detection. - Game breaking loading glitches. Another serious one! At random, the game will refuse to load a match and get stuck in the Vs loading screen. It causes both players to disconnect from PSN. You try another match thinking it was a network error, but the same thing happens. So, you get frustrated and go to training. Oops! Online glitch broke offline and you can't load. So you have to quit the game and load it again, and hope it doesn't happen immediately. It also breaks game lobbies in friendly matches, and everyone crashes. - Similar to above, except the game gets stuck loading, and you try to quit, but instead of exiting to XMB, it causes your PS3 to lock up and reboot. Sometimes, it breaks your display settings and you have to set up your display again. - Custom matches in scoreboard still doesn't find games. I've never ever seen a match under custom in over a year. If you can find people to play during quickplay, then that means there are people playing and it should populate custom as well. - Scoreboard Quick matches often take 4 to at times 15 tries to even find someone. There are a bunch of people on SB. It also takes way too long to search, and you can't check messages or send anything while it does because it forces the XMB "searching" notice AS WELL AS the in game one. One is enough, and I'd like to send messages at the very least while I have to re-attempt 10 or so times to find a match. - Joining a game in scoreboards seems to have a 50% rate of success, even if it finds a game to connect to. It will just drop. Quick match can match you up with the same person 10 times in a row, but there are still drop or timeout errors left and right. - Dropped inputs using a SIXAXIS/DS3 is still pretty bad. More often than I'd like, hitting a button will do nothing, sometimes it happens while jumping, the game recognizes up but not up+forward, and you end up getting DP'd on the way down instead of jumping over your opponent. It also breaks blocks, as well, which is annoying because you're holding buttons down and it stops doing it for no reason. I haven't tested this with a stick because I haven't used a stick long enough to find out if it happens with one. - The 3D Akuma fireball charging graphic in the menus will often cause framerate drops during the menu transitions. PS3 should be able to handle that perfectly fine, we've had full on island environments rendered, this should be no sweat. - Menus still take too long to transition from one to another. - HDR will report you have been disconnected from PSN while trying to find a game sometimes, even though you have not been disconnected from PSN. ----------------- Feature request: Please enable a ping filter! I hate having a frustrating match and losing out because it quick matched to some guy with 250++++ ping! Like, if we could set a preference up to match with someone 120 ping or lower, that would help a lot. I've played guys who had 80+ games in scoreboards a night, have respectable pings, yet I only got one match with em and then 10 matches with a guy who's character lag teleports.
Thank you folks for your time. |
