Interesting, is Akuma really only B-tier when the Japanese pros have been ranking him upper A or S-tier for some time now? Heck, even SRK is calling this "awful" and that is should not be referenced. EDIT: Figure out why the thing is awful, it's taken from a wiki. Wait until Arcadia publishes a list based on stuff from guys like Daigo and Mago, then we'll talk tiers.

Well at least they got Rose above Sakura, so that's kinda factual. Other than that, yeah tier lists could be done by anyone really

The have Bison having 4-6 matchups against Sagat, Zangief, and Chun-li. I play enough of Bison to figure this is about right, but i would still rate the Sagat/Bison matchup as 5-5. Also he should be rated at at least 6-4 against Ken and Akuma. |

This tier chart is based on shenanigans. Japanese don't use console characters cause they don't play tournaments on consoles. Therefore, this is doo doo. Akuma does not go 4/6 with Sagat. Have you seen what Japanese Akumas do to Sagat with that standing roundhouse into jab into st.RH again over and over again?

This list is actually compiled by the Japanese, which I would think would attribute to console characters getting the short end when it comes to figuring out their actual matchup ratios. Overall, I'd say this list is a good rough look at the matchups. Remember, you have to give leeway in these numbers for player skill and their ability to capitalize on character intricacies, exploits, et cetera in the specific matchups. These charts are more accurately applied to higher level play, whereas if it were applied to regular players, a simple misunderstanding of matchup specifics could shift the ratios in the complete opposite direction. |

I think the collective opinion about the console characters is they're not top tier, with the only exception being Seth. I don't think this is a Japanese thing, but the general opinion of the SF4 community.
As people have mentioned, this shouldn't be the end all be all discussion on who's great in the game, but rather a loose guideline on how the matches stack up. You're going to disagree with parts of it, hell, even I disagree with parts of it, but it's impossible to build a tier list that pleases everyone. To give an example, there were several Blanka players who messaged me about his match up against Zangief, saying Blanka didn't have that heavy of an advantage, it's listed as a 7-3. The ones that personally emailed me got this video in response: www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhOg5Nngt3Y These are two of the best respective players with Blanka and Zangief going at it. Not that one video should ever tell the whole story in a match, but when two of the best players go at it and one of them completely dominates the set, there's probably something to it. And I've seen this happen a few other times as well in this particular match. Most Gief players have told me they hate playing against Blankas. The one thing I got messages about consistently, and that I agree with, is Akuma's tier placing was slightly too low. It's hard to say Akuma isn't in the same tier as Ryu/Balrog/Rufus, but when the math was complete, he ended up where he did, which isn't too far off. *shrug*

I think it's easier to GROUP characters into groups than to say this one's better than this one
Dan and Vega are down there together
Then you've got a bunch of mid-tiers And the console characters, save for Fei Long, lower mid-tiers.
I just think people dislike when they try to say this character is better than this one
