As sf fans why do we have to be so fricking rigid about NEW ideas in the franchise. We see comments like "thats just not what sf is about". If we shoot down ideas automatically for "not being what sf is about" then we risk the franchise becomming redundant.......(see tekken, doa, and most of all, SOUL CALIBUR) |

We've got nothing against new ideas, it's about when and where to implement them. If you did put in these "clashes" and implement special > normal priority, you would have to go and rebalance the entire roster and tweak the properties of a lot of moves so they don't end up over-powered or completely useless. If they were planning on rebuilding the game from the ground up, sure, no problem, but they aren't. Implementing clashes as described by the OP wouldn't work with SFIV as it is now without a complete revamp of the fighting engine. Plain and simple. Just tossing a feature in can render fighting data gleaned from the community for balance purposes null and void, making the act of balancing the game after such a radical change a pain in the arse and woefully innaccurate. |

Bring back Ibuki already! You know we want her!
We are all ready and waiting for a new Capcom Crossover Fighting Game with the SFIV treatment! After all these years I'm still amazed at how many people don't know what buffering is. You can't cook a truly delicious match if your main ingredient is SPAM! PSN I.D. SUNofNOTHING *SUN of NOTHING* |

Priority is definitely one of the foundations SF is built on.
But I certainly wouldn't mind it if clashes replaced trades. People are like "But then you won't have double KO's!" Why in the hell do you WANT double KO's? I'd rather have a winner. |

Thats all I'm really saying. I wouldn't mind at all if clashes replaced priority normals. Why? Because it can be a damper to have a character with high priority normals fight one with low. Clashers are in KOF yet it doesn't eff up the balance. So i'm just saying, I wouldn't mind at all, in fact i'd welcome a change of pace. Everyone constanly goes on about what makes street fighter, street fighter. I think what makes street fighter is whatever capcom decides to experiment with. Without experiementation we get rehashes of the same game. Sf4 pretty much = sf 2.5. You know it's true. In fact, even the design team said and I quote : Okada: Since the game was in many ways a new version of Street Fighter II, of course it made sense to include characters from the original SF2.... I highly doubt there will ever be clashes in sf, but if they did put them in, kudos to them. |

Priority in SF isn't determined by an arbitrary value assigned to the move, but rather by a combination of the moves active frames and its hitboxes. In other words, a move has higher priority than another move when if either comes out faster or has a better hitbox (or set of hitboxes) allowing the character to deal more damage without taking too much (or any damage at all).
I support a new (or remixed) Darkstalkers game!
