True,

Just going by the last thing he went by as far as the timeline was concerned. Or the most interesting if anything.

We'll see, one thing SFIII does is take out a large portion of the SFII/Alpha cast.

Dude,Capcom totally ignored the stroylines of before and after the events of sf4.In sf4 a lot of characters that are supposed to be dead are back idk how,but they are.Plus the characters don't look slitest bit old.The only time you saw the characters change in age was in alpha and in sf3.

So what? It has no bearing on what they can do with SFV.

Why does 3rd Strike receive so much praise? The answer is simple:

" Scrubs keep our community alive, not top players [...]."

My thoughts exactly

That's why they'll probably keep SFIII canon but not base SFV on it, or rather that's what we agree on.

Point: The new storyline presented in IV is what they're aiming for and what will probably drive the series from now on. Whether they connect that to SFIII in some way is another thing.

Thank you so much for that link.

I think they could pull SF3 being canon by saying that, the other SF2/SF4 characters were doing their own thing, its just that you dont see and hear from them in the game. If Chun Li were to have said "Yeah Guiles dead" though, well then you have a real problem.

The solution is simple.

Street Fighter's majority revolves around the tournaments and machinations of Shadaloo and the people connected to it through various means both directly and indirectly.

Street Fighter III was about the Illuminati, so could be thought of as a side event in the series. Gill invited the fighters in it. The world is full of people, we can't assume every strong fighter ends up in the same tournaments.

In fact if anything Super Street Fighter II established this with Akuma, Bison had no idea who this guy was, he wasn't invited and had no part of the tournament or Shadaloo's plots or members and only showed up thanks to Ryu.

So Gill used a different criteria, plus likely would want to avoid mixing blood with another secret group like Shadaloo and letting his plans be known, so focused on different fighters.

Street Fighter 1 is as related to Street Fighter 2 as Street Fighter 2 is related to Street Fighter 3.

Street Fighter 1 had nothing to do with Shadaloo.  And so far, SF1, SF2, SF3, and SF4 have all revolved around tournaments.

Yeah I wouldnt mind it if SFIII was a side story. I mean they dont out right say Sagat, Guile, Blanka, etc are dead and gone. It just means they werent showcased in SFIII. I hope Ono can see or think that idea, before going through a huge retcon process.

SFIV supposedly took place in the 1994-95 range that would put SSFIV in the 1995-96 or two to three years before SFIII which took place in the 1998-99 timeframe.
