Ok. First of all, this is not just a Darkstalkers thread. That's why I think it should go here. But the idea originated from there (and I briefly suggested it in other two threads, then I figured I should have made a thread for it, as well), since Darkstalkers has been one of the most successful and loved Capcom series, and it's probably the big hitter that's been missing for the longest time. They're still in the fans' hearts, and they deserve something more than some brief appearance in CFJ or CvS2. A presence that I didn't enjoy, by the way: they deserve a place of their own to show their true nature and fullfil their potential (or, at most, together with Samurai Shodown and Last Blade), instead of just being out of place in CvS2... that's why I support Street Fighter vs King of Fighters, rather than a CvS3. This would be a 2D fighting style game with 3D graphics, just like SFIV or, more likely, like Tatsunoko vs Capcom. Watching TvC characters fight and perform their flashy and cartoonish supers is what convinced me that a 3D(ish) Darkstalker(ish) game was possible. The plot would be roughly this: Jedah opens some big dimensional warp (as part of one of his plans to obtain ultimate power), which starts melting other worlds (all the worlds that were most "touched by darkness", or something like that) into Makai (the world of some of the Darkstalkers). That's where some characters from these different realities stand up to avoid their own world to be absorbed (and that's where the other Capcom games fit in). It's pretty much a standard plot for a non-canon game, but being the Darkstalkers storyline not too convoluted... it may be canon, as well, maybe. I was thinking about a roster of 40 characters: the 20 returning Darkstalkers + 20 "guests" from other titles. Darkstalkers 1) Demitri Maximoff 2) Morrigan Aensland 3) Lilith 4) Donovan Baine 5) Jon Talbain/Gallon 6) Rikuo/Aulbath 7) Lord Raptor/Zabel Zackrock 8) Q-Bee 9) Anakaris 10) Victor Von Gerdenheim 11) Bishamon 12) Hsien-Ko/Lei-Lei 13) Felicia 14) Baby Bonnie Hood 15) Sasquatch 16) Pyron (boss) 17) Jedah Dohma (boss) 18) Marionette (secret character) 19) Shadow (secret character) 20) Huitzil/Phobos (secret character) "Capcom worlds" 1) Red Arremer (Ghosts'n'Goblins; Boss) 2) Leo (Red Earth) 3) Tessa (Red Earth) 4) Hauzer (Red Earth) 5) Ruby Heart (MvC2, not sure if she's entirely owned by Capcom, but she should be) 6) Amingo (MvC2, same story) 7) Sonson (MvC2, but also directly derived from SonSon, a 1984 Capcom game) 8) Dante (Devil May Cry) 9) Lady (Devil May Cry) 10) NEW CHARACTER! (Monster Hunter, it should represent the player-generated protagonist) 11) Amaterasu (Okami; secret character) 12) Samanosuke Akechi (Onimusha) 13) Kaede (Onimusha) 14) Jill Valentine (Resident Evil) 15-20) ??? (More Red Earth monsters? More Devil May Cry? More Onimusha? More Resident Evil? More Okami? Something completely different? New characters based on some traditional horror story archetypes - like, for example, banshees - that are missing in Darkstalkers?) What do you guys think? Would you play this game? Do you have suggestions on the roster or anything else? Please bear in mind what I don't want to see here: - characters from the Street Fighter world... no matter how weird you think they are! No Blanka, no Rose, no Akuma, not one character from the SFIII roster. The flavour of those characters and their stories is totally different from the Darkstalkers ones. They're also totally below the power scale of the Darkstalkers: one Darkstalker's blood could kill a human, if they touched it, for crying out loud! SF characters get a lot of exposure elsewhere, anyway. Also, when someone says "this belongs in Darkstalkers", usually it's a way to berate the character... and that's not a constructive nor useful attitude; - Megaman and Viewtiful Joe characters. They're less "down to earth" than the SF cast, but still they're too cheerful and overall their style doesn't fit with the Darkstalkers setting; - characters that are not owned by Capcom: no SF EX, no Marvel, no SNK, no NAMCO, no JoJo's Bizarre Adventures... |

I wouldn't mind Shin Akuma and/or Gill in there too, as both would fit into a dark game with their themes quite well. |

SF characters get too much exposition elsewhere, so I'm generally for saying "no, but I do want to see them in SF". We can't really know about the power level... maybe those two could be on par with the DS roster, but still the fact that a mere drop of blood from Morrigan (I think it was her) can kill them (even if they resurrect after that) makes me lean towards the "no". Regardin the "theme/flavour"... well, Gill is kinda close in some terms. He's all about his messiah complex, and elemental powers. But he's also fancy business suits, secret organizations, hi-tech devices and study of classic martial arts. Hmm... so so. Shin Akuma is basically Akuma at the apex of his power. He's not a demon. He's just a very skilled martial arts master killer. All he thinks about is killing and facing other martial artists (mostly, those from his own school). I dunno, maybe he could have a rivalry against Jon Talbain (who was a martial artist, before being turned into a werewolf)... but it still seems a weak excuse to put Akuma in the game. |

Yeah I thought of Gill as he does personify a "seraphic angel", which would fit in well with other gothic themes in DS's. I have to admit, I fall into the trap of thinking Akuma is a demon. Interestingly, Jon Talbain must be an excellent martial artist in human form alone, in Werewolf form his strength and definitely speed must increase massively. A bit too fast for a SF character to deal with? |

Thats an awesome piece of artwork, but who's the character behind Jedah and inbetween Victor and Q.Bee? It looks like there's a giant key in her back. |

That's Marionette. She's one of the two secret characters (the other one being Shadow, behind Q-Bee). She has a "Mokujin" fighting style, IIRC. |
