The position of ssfiv's standalone game instead of DLC content was already a risky, whineworthy movement. Putting something huge in ssfiv to make people buy the original sfiv would be nothing short of an outrage to the people who don't already own it. DLC costumes got bad enough reception, making people buy two copies of the same core game borders on alienating.

That could be one such thing, but it could also be the option to convert SFIV data to S.SFIV, and new artwork and music as well. Still, i wonder...

I'm gonna sell my ps3 soon so I'll lose all my sf4 data. When I get ssf4 I don't really mind unlocking all the icons and titles and I guess i'm fine with ranking up in champ mode again if everyone else has to do the same. It will be fun

I'd imagine a surprise wouldn't be anything big or money grubbing, not DLC, or early pre-order content (which I hate ten times more than DLC, and everytime I see those gamestop commercials for it I retch a little): and await hackers to figure out the codes and teach others over the internet the easy method to get them unlocked.

no, its more likely refering to something in the game, that all buyers will find, that will be a surprise.

Likely surprises: a character we didn't expect will show up as a hidden character or amongst the main cast, the car or brick test your strength stage is back, an adventure mode, ect...something that would actually be a surprise rather than a commercial or *buy the last game*. Or it could just be a teaser trailor for something else in the game. I remember NISA talking about a surprise in Disgaea 2 that turned out to be a trailor for the Disgaea anime selectable from the main menu...a very mis-leading trailor as the anime was no where near as action packed as the trailor let on, but still funny.

So yeah, something basic and something in the game would make the most sense.

You don't lose your GP or BP or whatever.  That is stored online.  When you sign back up it should restore your points sooner or later.
