this actually says one of the reason why he never caught on with me. Aside from not haveing a move set or appearance I much cared for (he really did look average joe to me) and had no range and his speed was between that of the slower fighters and the speedsters, yet didn't have the speed to take advantage of the lower defense or the strength the make up for the lack of speed. but as I was saying, his story has nothing to it. No secret training searching for his master's killer, avengeing his father, henchman for the badguy, out to make money for his family, no vanity of power, or world domination. He really has no plot that would set him up as anything more than a normal Kick boxer other than he is also a music lover, but that's nothing special alot of guys have more than one hobby. Which may be why in the old campy movie (which for the record I thought was a fun movie at the least), he is basically forced into the movie by being made Bison's henchman. They changed alot of character plots around and motivations too though, but the movie suffered from characteritice trying to force too many characters together in one movie and come up with an excuse to have them all in one place doing the same basic thing. and Deejay was made a generic "science officer" type of henchman for Bison. Which is better than what Dhalsim got oddly enough, didn't even know THAT was Dhalsim till the credits. |

How stupid is that response? "He doesn't appeal to anyone" Excuse me, Street Fighter II was originally sub-titled The World Warriors, which fighters representing different countries. Dee Jay came in with the new characters that were also based on the countries theme, with him representing Jamaica, Cammy England, T-Hawk Mexico and Fei-Long China. So they appealed to their fellow countrymen. I'm from Jamaica and Deejay appealed to me a lot, as we're such a small country yet we were chosen to be represented in a videogame that was immensely popular at the time. However, people know Jamaica for its music, mostly Bob Marley and at the time a lot of games had dreadlocked fighters that either looked like him or a stereotype of rastas. Deejay was different in that he didn't look like the stereotypical Jamaican, which made him appeal to me even more, as I'm not a rasta and would've looked at another rasta character as generic. Maybe him not being generic is what made his character fail since that's what Japanese/US are used to. His story was just as weak as other characters at the time, Ryu just fighting to become stronger, Blanka raised by eels? and his mom finds him by identifying a HUGE anklet on his leg that would've never fit a child? come on! the stories were all weak. Honestly I don't really know what made him fail, cuz I think he's pretty good as a fighter and I've seen many done well with him. My only gripe is that they could've made him wear Jamaican colors(like Abel does for his country in SFIV) and his music sounds spanish, which if they're basing his story on his music and Jamaicans are known for our music, how can u get his music wrong? Even the Overclocked Remix version of his song is freaking Reggaeton, that's not even english. Totally diff island and culture...they def failed in his representation of Jamaica. |

That's fine with me. Breaks away from the seriousness of it all. Dee Jay is just chill... I like using him from time to time. Marc brings up good points about the Reggaeton music and the failing of representing Jamaica.

I kinda dig Dee Jay Actually in terms of Story line and gameplay He really is pretty average Joe, but I feel like he's a well made average joe. The only reason Why I don't like him is the way he looks. That Huge Smile of his that isn't backed by an idiot or crazy person. I'd See a more Hippi-esque Dee Jay if he's going to be making music. Or something.... He looks Like a Sane Lunatic for Some reason.... not Insane.... But someone that has it all togethor but isn't normal with their facial expressions. And I think his story is kind of awesome once you think about it. Each fighters style and looks can be associated to a type of music. Dalseem to the seemingly senseless universal instrument the Sitar, Blanka to the Drums of the Heartbeat, etc. Its kind of Mind Opening actually... His whole Character Design. I feel like he almost is the other Half of Fei Long. Fei Long supposed to Represent Bruce Lee and the Idea of Perfecting Martial Arts and the art of Body expression, Dee Jay supposed to represent out of the box thinking and how awesome Fighting and music both are. I think Dee Jay May in fact Represent the Future of Fighting Games Dance Dance Revolution..... |

Deejay definitle is a cool character and that sprite certainly makes me want to "chill". I use him occasionally when I want to try out some new moves and I am really fond of his Jamaican character. He is a "hip" kind of guy!
