This is the thread to discuss the details of our new Unity Auctions and Raffles feature.  If you don't know what they are, read on.

When you have used the system, provide your feedback here!

Introducing Capcom Unity Auctions and Raffles!

So a lot of you have been asking “What’s the deal with these points that we get for doing stuff around the site?  What do they do?”  Today is the first part of our answer to that question!

Of course Unity Points are a great way of seeing who is the most involved and who are the biggest Capcom fans, but now you can actually do things with the points as well.  What can you do with them?  You can use them to bid on Capcom Unity Auctions, or buy raffle tickets for the Capcom Unity Raffles.

Auctions should be familiar to anyone that’s ever used eBay or a similar kind of service.  Your points are your currency, and you bid what you think the item is worth to you.  If you have the highest bid when the auction ends, you win!  We ship you the item, and deduct the points from your “Spendable Points” total.  Your “Lifetime Points” will still reflect the sum total of all the points you’ve ever earned on Unity.  Anyone that bid but doesn’t win will get back all of their points to bid on something else once the auction is over.

Raffles are also just what they sound like.  There’s a special item, and you can buy raffle tickets to try and win it.  Raffle tickets have a relatively low, fixed cost.  Once the raffle period ends, we randomly draw the winning ticket and determine the winner of the item.  Your odds of winning depend on how many other people also bought raffle tickets.  If only two people buy one ticket each, you would have a 50% chance of winning.  If 100 people buy one ticket each, you’d have a 1% chance of winning.  The one catch is that you can buy as many tickets as you want, so you can improve your odds if you feel like spending more points (just like a real auction).  Buying more tickets does not guarantee you will win, but it can improve your chances, and even if you just buy one ticket, that gives you a chance to win as well.

What will we be auctionin’ and rafflin’?  Fun stuff!  We plan to share rare, hard-to-find, or even one-of-a-kind items for any and all of the Capcom brands.  Stuff that you wouldn’t be able to just buy anywhere.  This is our way of rewarding our biggest fans with real-world items, and making sure these special items get into the hands of *you*, the fans, for whom they will mean the most.

Now before anyone goes too crazy, please remember that this is a BETA.  We’re testing out the system, and we’d like your help in making sure everything is running smoothly.

Also, while we want you to bid and buy raffle tickets, keep in mind we’ll be offering Auction and Raffle items regularly after this beta is over, so there will be plenty of chances for you to bid on some very special items in the future, not only during this test.  That said, although this is a test, it is also a REAL test—we really will ship you this stuff if you win (and so your points really will be deducted if you win).

Where Do I Go?
Where can you find “Auctions” and “Raffles”?  Head over to your Hub (you can find this up on the flash navigation bar.  Next your username, there’s a small rectangle icon with a star marked “My Hub”).  On your Hub page, look for the “Capcom Rewards” box, and click on “My Points Page.”  Welcome to Auction and Raffle land!  Now spend some points!

The good news is that shipping is free, for any item of any size.  The bad news is that we cannot currently ship outside of North America.  If you are not in North America, make friends with someone here that is, and you can make arrangements with them to ship you the items.  Have fun, and let us know your thoughts, problems, etc. HERE in the Auctions and Raffles Feedback thread!

Thanks for playing,

Team Unity

Yuffie, you rule. Like, officially.

Also don't be down on your chances in an auction.  3 thoughts:

1) if everybody thinks like you and nobody actually bids on the stuff, you're in great shape :)

2) where else can you find an auction where you can bid with currency that you can basically print yourself just by getting more involved here?

3) Finally, you may as well try, since you get your points back if you don't win (unlike Raffles!).

best,

Seth

The only problem with points is that you get points for posting pictures. So people can fill their galleries with loads of pictures to get points without even being an active member. Kinda of a shame really, but I guess the system could be worse. Laughing

Bug report: Bid on auction, and was asked if I wanted to raise by 100. I said yes. It was raised by 10.
