The first Megaman game I ever played was Megaman 2. I suppose I first played it when I was 4 years old in 1990. The only robot masters I could beat were Flashman, Metalman, and Woodman. That was about it. The alternate solution to get the final levels was to use passwords that were in an old Nintendo code book.
1990 was about the time my mother subscribed to Nintendo Power, and I read about Megaman IV. I enjoyed the Mario and Zelda comics back then, I even saw some of the robot master designs that were submitted for Megaman 6, but saw the two winning American designers. I never got to see the original designs though.
The first Megaman game I ever owned though, was Megaman 2 for Gameboy. I thought a lot of people hated it because Capcom didn't use the same music that was in the original Megaman 2 for the NES. The real reason why is because Megaman 2 for Gameboy is too easy. I guess I can agree with that.
The point where I really got into Megaman was when Megaman X was released. It was awesome with it's rocking soundtrack and lovable characters (read: Zero). I was psyched when I saw that a sequel was made. But I was even MORE psyched when I saw that a remake of the game was made for Playstation and Sega Saturn. The funny thing is, America got the remake...except it was on the PC...and it was awesome.
Heck I even saw some of the Japanese figures in some ads in an old magazine way back then.
But enough. Let me show you my collection:
Yea. I don't really consider keeping the boxes for the older games. Onto the games!
I wanted to take individual photos of each part of my collection. As you can see, I have Megaman 2-6 for the NES. I bought them at a local Game X Change. My brother actually bought Megaman 6 the time it came out, but I later traded it for Megaman X2 if I remember correctly. Now...if only I can find Megaman 1...
I think Megaman 3 is my favorite. In order of favorites for the NES, I like 3, 2, 5, 6, 4, 1
There is my copy of Megaman 2 for Gameboy! Along with my ebay'd copy of Megaman 4. When I heard that a Megaman X game was coming to Gameboy, I couldn't wait, and bought a Japanese copy. (Known as Rockman X: Cyber Mission in Japan, here as Megaman Xtreme) I actually owned an American copy, but I got rid of it because since I know Japanese now, having another copy is redundant. Back then, I didn't know a bit of Japanese, but I did well. Above is my copy of Megaman Xtreme 2. It's a lot better than Xtreme 1, because the levels aren't ported straight from Megaman X2 and X3. The other cartridge is a pirate 2 in 1 cartridge that has Rockman 2 and Yu Yu Hakusho 3 for Gameboy on it. I got that from a friend of my dad. I really want to find a hard copy of Megaman 5 for Gameboy! I really wish Capcom could've finished a compilation of all the original Gameboy Megaman games for the DS!
My SNES games. I think Megaman 7 is certainly the most underrated of the Classic Megaman games. Out of all the SNES Megaman X games, I think Megaman X2 is the best, with X3 a close second. But I think the Playstation version of X3 blows the SNES version away!
Does anyone remember the Game Gear made by Sega? I sure hope so! Cause if you don't, you missed out on another Megaman game! Fans call this "The Best of Megaman" because you fight robot masters from Megaman 4 and Megaman 5. Did you know the final Wily stage is actually Quickman's level? Here's a funny: My old Game Gear had the upper half of the screen blacked out, so I couldn't see the rest of what was going on!
My Japanese Playstation copies of Megaman X3, X4, X5, and X6....Megaman 8 too! I can't help but like the arranged soundtrack of Megaman X3 better than the SNES soundtrack. When I owned Megaman X4 as a kid, I thought the english voices were alright, but when I listened to the Japanese ones, I couldn't go back to loving the english voices....especially X's little girly voice. Some fun facts: America missed out on an additional title animation for Megaman X4, and voices for the 8 Mavericks you had to fight! As for Megaman X5 and X6, not much...just a better title screen. Voices for Megaman 8 (US version) were fine...except for Dr. Light's Elmer Fudd voice....ugh. I think Megaman X4 is my favorite X game, followed by X5.
My Playstation 2 games! On the top row you see Japanese copies of Megaman X Command Mission, Rockman Power Battle Fighters (Japan Exclusive), and Megaman X7. After such horrible voices experienced in Megaman X7, and lack of Japanese voices included during gameplay (they were heard during cutscenes and movies only), buying the Japanese copy was something I could use to repent for such horrible voices. (X sounds like a wuss, Zero sounds like Piccolo from Dragonball Z, and Axl sounds like Ash from Pokemon).
I got both PS2 and Gamecube versions of Megaman Anniversary Collection because I wanted both the Remixed Music for the Classic NES Megaman games and the G4 interview with Keiji Inafune (the creator of Megaman). Getting Megaman X Collection is worth it just to unlock Megaman Battle & Chase. Also you see my copy of Megaman X8.
My Japanese copy of Megaman Network Transmission! I got it to see what all Americans missed out on: just Lan not saying "PLUG IN! ROCKMAN EXE! TRANSMISSION!" and the Japanese names for the other characters. In the American version, Lan never says Rockman, Megaman never says Netto-kun (Netto is Lan's name in Japan) and Protoman EXE never says "Blues" in his intro. This game is the EXE/Battle Networks series' redemption because of how it keeps the gameplay classic Megaman style!!
My Megaman X Gamecube controller. :) Had there been a PS2 version of it, I would've bought it in an instant!
My Japanese copies of Megaman Powered Up and Megaman Maverick Hunter X for the PSP. (I wanted them early!) Best part about getting the Japanese version was that you got more Officially created levels from Capcom of Japan. (No offense Capcom of America)
My Gameboy Advance games! From America, I have Megaman Battle Network 1, 2, Battle Chip Challenge, 3 Blue, 4 Red Sun, Megaman Zero, and Megaman & Bass. I got interested in the E-reader features that became exclusive to Japan. That's why you see Japanese copies of MMBN4 Red Sun and Blue Moon. From Japan I got Rockman EXE 4.5 Real Operation, EXE 5 Team Blues, Team Colonel, Rockman Zero 2, Rockman Zero 3, and Rockman Zero 4. I didn't pick up Battle Network 6 because around the time it came out, I got tired of the EXE/Battle Network series.
Nintendo DS Games!! All Japanese copies, I have Rockman EXE 5 Twin Leaders, Rockman ZX, Rockman ZX Advent. If you pre-ordered your game from Capcom of Japan, you got a promotional DVD and Stickers. When I pre-ordered my copy from Play-Asia I didn't expect to get one!!
It's...beautiful!!!! *sniff*
Remember how I mention I got interested in the E-reader features of Rockman EXE 4? I ended up buying import e-reader cards. They didn't work with American E-readers, so you had to get an E-reader Plus (+) from Japan. This card above gives you the secret chip: Grand Prix Power G.
Another E-reader card: Guts Soul. When you scan this, this puts you into Guts Soul during battle. Other Souls cannot be used.
Other things cards would do is give you additional health, use a cannon shot instead of a charge shot, use a chip move by pressing Left and B, give you additional chips, and TAKE AWAY THE MINUS 1 HP BUG WHEN YOU USE DARK CHIPS!!
My E-reader + on top of my folder with E-reader cards.
E-reader cards were made for EXE 5 and EXE 6 too. If you bought a copy of the Rockman EXE movie, you'd get a special e reader card called "Forte Cross Rockman." Almost a Forte Soul, in EXE 5, this summons Forte (Bass) to appear at a certain area of the game. This would be the only way to fight Forte in EXE 5. In both versions of Battle Network 5, Forte Cross Rockman was different. The Charge Attack in the Protoman version was the Shooting Buster, while in the Colonel version, the attack was Hell's Rolling Wheel (A better attack)
As you can see, I also own American copies of Megaman X4, X5, X6 and Megaman 8. Also Megaman Legends 2 and the awesome prequel Misadventures of Tron Bonne! Please make Megaman Legends 3!!
Walkthrough Guides!!! The most interesting books are the Japanese Guide Books for Rockman X2 and X3. You also see my copy of the Rockman Perfect Memories book (made for Rockman's 15th anniversary.), Rockman Zero Complete Works (Recently released in America) and my copy of R20: Rockman and Rockman X Official Complete Works (Yet to be released in America) Those 3 books are actually full of art and information on the series!
Music!! I have Japanese soundtracks for Megaman X1-X6 (Capcom Sound Collection) Megaman X7, Remastered Tracks for Megaman Zero 1-4 and ZX Tunes (from Megaman ZX). The picture you see above actually came with my preordered copy of Remastered Tracks Rockman Zero 2.
Nice, isn't it?
The Blues Edtion Battle Chip Gate. You got this if you bought the special edition of Rockman EXE 4.5
If you plugged the BCG (Battle Chip Gate) into a GBA with Battle Network 4 in it, you could play operation battles and act like the Net Navi Operater!
The Rockman Version of the Battle Chip Gate. VARIABLE SWORD!! SLOT IN!!
My imported Advanced Pet II. (The battery is out. :P)
The Star Man Navi Data Chip that came with the Special Edition of Rockman EXE 4.5. Insert it into the Battle Chip Gate (connected to the GBA) when at the Navi selection screen, and you'll unlock Star Man!! Yay!!
My Copy of Rockman Battle and Fighters for the deceased Neo Geo Pocket Color.
Do you see that thing at the right? That's the Advanced Chip Gate. You could use it with Battle Network 5 and play operation battles too! Or you supposedly could use other Navis in either version of the game. It came with one chip: Forte Another.
TOYS!!! Not toys really. These are Japanese figurines that I've had for years. You had to assemble all the pieces together to complete the figure. Some of them came with a little ball you could shoot from the buster. Here you see a metallic blue version of Megaman, Protoman, and Bass!
Quite possibly my favorites out of all the figures I have: Megaman X and Zero!!
That's Bit on the right, but who's the guy on the left? He appeared on the Japan-only Megamission cards. His name is Return X, the evil doppelganger of X. He wanted to obtain the Sigma chip so he could revive himself as many times as he wants. (Just like Sigma...)
huh? Who's that!!?
It's Megaman X in the Golden Armor from Megaman X3!!! This was actually called X3 Hyper Special on the box it was sold. They also sold a Silver Plated version as well as the normal version (called the MAX ARMOR). Anyone know whether a figure of the X1 armor or X2 armor was sold?
ULTIMATE ARMOR X!! This figure originally came with a special edition of Rockman X4 in Japan for the Sega Saturn and Playstation. You could either combine the ultimate armor pieces to make a jet for X, form pieces for the Nova Strike, or just let X stay in his normal armor.
Armor Figures from Megaman X5! From left to right: Falcoln Armor, Force/Fourth Armor, Gaia Armor!
FALCOLN ARMOR X FLYING ALL OVER THE PLACE WEEEEEEE!!!! :D
A metallic blue armor X too!? Awesome.
Special Mega Armor versions of X and Zero! Supposedly these are amors from the Megamission card series...(I have no idea.)
It's the evil version of Zero from Megaman X2!! (You saw him if you got all of Zero's parts in X2)
They face off!!
Another shot with Zero in his normal armor.
I'd thought I'd save the best for last in a little story I call: VILE'S REVENGE!!!
Yes! They also made a figure for Vile too!! And the X3 ride armor! (The Hawk)
A full photo of the monstrosity!
I dare you to stop me!!
Just watch me!
HA!!
*SCHWING*
You're defenseless now, Vile! You might as well give up!
ORLY?
Aw crap...
He has some new enhancements!!!
Ah!!!
Give it up X! Surrender, or I'll crush Zero!!
Where did X go?
Riiiiight here, Vile!!
Here we go again....
*CENSORED DUE TO VIOLENCE*
You've been defeated again Vile! Back to the junk yard for you!!
I am Vile....I....*dies*
The only box that I have left: Rockman X Double Impact. It came with the orange armor, the metallic blue armor, the black Zero armor, and the Silver Plated Max Armor. It only came with two figures though...
Thanks for looking!
