My Vega costume - I guess that contest was rigged...

    Monday, November 2, 2009, 12:55 PM [General]

I made a Vega costume this year for Halloween, so I figured what better place to show it than on a Capcom website :).  What do you think?

So I joined this site per recommendation of a friend a while back.  I decided to wait until I had some worthy pics before I joined.  So after Halloween this past weekend, I finally had some and I posted them up here.  Then people started telilng me my costume was awesome and that I should enter in the Halloween Costume Contest.

So I sent that "jgonzo" fellow a PM on Nov 2nd.  I never got any sort of response, so I have no idea if my entry was even considered or if he just ignored it.

As it turns out, I guess that contest was a load of **** anyways.  The gave 1st to someone who's pics were taken no where near Halloween.  Granted the costume was sweet, but still.  The real shocker is that I lost (assuming i was even entered) to someone dressed as Dan .... Dan?  Dan is so gay even the kid who won 3rd was scared to wear a pink gi, he wore an orange one.  I'm sure that costume took all of 5 minutes of work to put together.

Lame... and from the looks of it I'm not the only one who thinks so.

ok. You need to back off.
If the mods felt it was unfair, they wouldnt have picked him to be first. And we may have just signed up, but we both have been on the website before, and decided to join because of the contest.

If you really believe that all I said was an excuse, than I apologize again. But I can't keep saying sorry to people who are angry with me when I was just as surprised as you and everyone else was.

I could care less about prizes, I just did it because it sounded like a lot of fun. I've already sent a mod a message to remove me from the position and to not win anything.

All I cared about was enjoying myself, but, I don't want you to assume I knew what I was doing. If I had the foresight to know I was going to get flamed this bad do you think I would have entered?

    I think not.

From what I've been reading throughout the site, regarding the Costume Contest, I think some people are truly missing the point and misinterpreting what this is all about.

I can honestly say right now that I don't know how me or you didn't--at the very least--get 3rd place.

Just joining the site or being a veteran doesn't matter, I get this part.

Having made the costume months in advance, hey that ain't the problem either.

It's the re-using of the same images from months ago that is one of the issues, while the other happens to be originality and the amount of work put into an actual costume.

1rst place explained to me the issue, but my only slight disagreement is how can it count if there is no pic to be sent from Halloween? Even if pics were taken that night, it only forces one to hurry up and make it on time for the contest, like I did and others.

The prize doesn't matter, it is the issue of what is fair.

Towards the end, not all but some of the winners know deep down what they actually did, while others did get screwed over.

Had I known then I would have done nothing this Halloween and just send in my professional convention pics I took back in March.

But I'm not like that--I stayed true to the new set of rules given and made a focus on at least originality by mixing SF and RE, two of my favorites.

My only wish is that there could at least be an explanation from the contest holders on what exactly happened.

Next time and hopefully a better and more detailed set of rules will be given because this was anything goes, no matter what year you took the pic in.

As I explained to a multitude of other people. I did wear the outfit on Halloween. I was with a group of people. However, my costume has no pockets, nor does my girlfriend's costume. So neither of us could carry our camera.

One of our friends with us however did take pictures and also took video. He has yet to upload them however, and as such, all I had to submit was what I already had uploaded.
