Remember Me almost had jet skis and global warming

Dontnod Entertainment’s creative director unveils the Remember Me that almost was…

If you’ve taken a look at the jaw-dropping art design of Remember Me’s 2084 Paris setting, it’s incredibly strange, and damn near unnerving, to think about the game taking place anywhere else . Well, Gamespot’s Shaun McInnis sat down with Remember Me’s creative director, Jean-Maxime Moris , and found out that Paris almost didn’t make the cut, as well as a bunch of other fascinating tidbits you probably didn’t know about Remember Me (because I didn’t!)

Evidently, Nilin was originally set to traverse a coastal city like San Francisco, Seattle or Tokyo. Why? Because back when it was going by the title “Adrift,” Remember Me was originally set to feature a global warming plot where you’d traverse the rising tides via jetski and a wakeboard. Weird !

Personally, I’m ecstatic about the futuristic Parisian setting simply because it’s so scarcely used as a location for any game that doesn’t feature licensed racing, but according to Moris, DontNod was more than a little reluctant to set Remember Me in its own backyard. Fortunately, things began to click once the plot shifted away from global warming and more towards commoditized memories and a spiritual extension to the tone George Orwell’s 1984.
