    Finally got an arcade stick

I finally put some money up to get a quality arcade stick. My game hit somthing of a wall on the 360 Controler and when I looked at the tape, errors in execution was somthing I needed to adress. With an arcade stick, that process has been a step foward but 2 steps back. Some combos are easier, but some things I used to do without effort just aren't happening like they used to. That said, I've only been at it for a day, but things are looking good.

That said, to the folks at Unity, what can you tell me about Octagonal Gates vs Square Gates, making the buttons a little more resistant (as it stands, a light breeze will register as inputs on this thing), and any tips you can come up with regarding making such a dramatic switch.

Xbox 360 Summer of Arcade Details and Pricing Revealed

Thursday, July 9, 2009, 09:43 PM GMT [Gaming]

Are you ready for some of the most anticipated XBLA games of the year to hit the Marketplace?  Well, you better be ready to purchase a bunch of Microsoft Points if you plan on playing all of the games, because they will cost you a pretty penny!  Only one game is priced at 800 MSP ($10), whereas all of the rest are priced at a relatively steep 1200 MSP ($15).  Granted, this price is warranted for a game like Shadow Complex, but the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles rehash is a bit of a head-scratcher.  Here is the entire list of games, which will be released weekly starting on July 22nd:

    • July 22: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled (1200 MSP)
    • July 29: Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (1200 MSP)
    • August 5: 'Splosion Man (800 MSP)
    • August 12: Trials HD (1200 MSP)
    • August 19: Shadow Complex (1200 MSP)
So, now that all of the prices have been revealed, which games will you be picking up and which ones will you give a pass on?

5' Street Fighter II Woodcut Work in Progress

Thursday, June 18, 2009, 02:55 PM EST [General]
    Posted By: Andy

Here is a shot of the work in progress of my big SFII woodcut:

It's going to be made out of two 32" panels to make an image over 5 feet long.

The image depicts Honda and Zangief fighting it out in Honda's sweet bath house stage. The CD that came with the SSF2THDR press kit is coming in quite handy for photo reference.

After the woodcut is done, I'm going to do a small edition of the prints. Stay tuned for more updates as the work comes along. I aim to be all done by Tuesday.

    Update #1 (6/21 @6pm)

I've finished all of the linework on the two panels, and I've begun the long process of actually carving them.

The perspective in the actual level was a little wonky, and replicating said wonkiness was probably the hardest part of the drawing.

This is my second woodcut ever, and the process is really fun and challenging. At 5.3', this is also one of the largest pieces I've ever done. Woodcut involves carving a panel and then covering it in ink and making prints (think of the wood as a giant rubber stamp). I have two large rolls of nice paper to print on, and I plan on making as many prints as I can. I will probably end up with and edition of 5-10. I am doing this for a monotype class, and our teacher is big proponent of working back into prints with traditional media like paint, so I might go back and watercolor one of the prints. We'll see.

    Update #2 (6/23 @ 1:52 am)

After about 25 hours of carving, the woodcut is finished!

I am about to head downtown to the print shop to make my editions of the woodcut. The prints are due at 9am, so it is going to be a long, rough day/night.

For each print of each panel I have to use rollers to spread a thin layer of ink over the entire board. The board is then rolled through a printing press and the ink is transferred onto paper. The board has to be re-inked after each printing, and I have to hand-tear each sheet of paper, so I'm estimating a good 3-5 hours of work left. I'll be sure to post the finished product!

    Update #3 (6/25)

The prints are all done! I did an edition of 7 of each panel. I will have photos or scans of the final product soon because I don't get them back until Friday.

    (Panel 2 all inked up)

    (A Print of Panel 2)

    (Panel 1 all inked up)

    (A print of panel 1)

The prints are backwards because I wanted to do something slightly different from the game itself, and it's a fun nod to the sprite flipping in SFII a la Guile's tattoo.

I hope you dig them, and any comments/critiques/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    New MotoGP in development

    Saturday, May 2, 2009, 11:00 AM [MotoGP 09]

Capcom® a leading worldwide developer and publisher of videogames, today announced that a new MotoGP title is in development. A continuation of Capcom’s exclusive five year agreement with Dorna Sports, this latest addition to the MotoGP videogame franchise is being developed for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft® by Monumental Games.

The upcoming MotoGP videogame promises to take the series in a totally new and exciting direction, whilst remaining faithful to the world’s premier motorcycling championship. Players will be rewarded for more than simply crossing the finishing line first and the game is set to include full and in-depth gameplay modes that deliver compelling online and offline content above and beyond the standard race experiences.

Rik Alexander commented “We’re working very closely with Capcom to take the MotoGP franchise to new heights. No-one would question the experience of our team - what’s amazing is the sheer energy which they’re bringing to the project. Like Capcom, they want this to surpass everything that’s come before, and so far they’re very much on track.”

The development team at Monumental includes ex-members of Climax Studios who worked on some of the most well received and critically acclaimed past MotoGP titles. With the combination of this wealth of experience plus an injection of top development talent, especially in the online arena, this latest title is set to be a refreshing and welcome addition to the racing genre.

“We are incredibly pleased to have Monumental as the developer for this title.” stated Michael Pattison, Senior Marketing Director, Capcom Europe. “And are confident they are the right choice to create a game that will both satisfy existing fans and bring newcomers to the franchise.”

Further details on this new MotoGP title will be revealed shortly.
