To be a Monster Hunter, part:1
So you want to be a Monster Hunter? Thats good, cause i'am here to help you out!
So many new hunters past few days, so many simple mistakes being made, does no one ever learn?
So I guess here is your chance to pick up some tips and not be that high ranked player, who has no idea what he/she is doing.
Monster Hunter plays differnt from normal games, 1 of biggest examples is the shear power of monsters vs the Player and how fast they can kill you.
Standing still and trying to "tank" one is gonna get you killed no matter what your wearing. This isnt a battle of gear alone! Its battle of knowledge!
Which bring us to tip number one and one of my fave quotes.
"ooo look a circle button! OMG u can roll!!! who would have ******* thought that up!"
-Rolling, dodgeing and blocking are your friend. A master of rolling can go thru just about every attack known in the game!
Knowing when to dodge and get out of the way is golden rule#1 to staying alive. Learn what a monster does before he attacks. Some like Rath's love to turn slow when shooting off fireballs and turning fast when they wanna charge! Monster like Nargacuga wages its tail before its leap attack, or makes a rattleingish sound when he flings tail spikes.
Blocking, well some weapons dont have roll, so blocking and dodgeing is all you got. Don't get greedy with all them attacks it'll only leave you wide open. Block and Counter! Add skill like Guard +1 and Constitution to help reduce push back and stam loss.
Dodgeing isnt so much a move, but walking or running out of the way. Monster Hunter can almost be played like turn based combat. Circle monster so they'll run or attacks past and get in for counter hit. Again learn where to stand and you'll always be safe.
Items and Inventory=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Knowing what to take on quest is half battle. Some monster hit you with status effects like Poison and Sleep. Bring right potions and items to counter them will save you trip on kitty cart to camp. =D
Inventory mangement is one of those things i see people not do... I was watching a Vid of Snow's other day and saw him tumbleing thru his inventory to make traps. =/
Thats how you get yourself a kitty cart ride to camp!
Let take a quick look at my inventory!
Page 3 has all items that always go with me on quest and almost never change.
Page one has all my items sorted and easy to get to. Soon as I open inventory I can make a trap in no time at all! Places item in order helps you cycle thru them better. Keeping potions next to each other makes it easy to get to one you need. I throw Books on page 2 so there out of the way.
Always remember to look around before trying to combine on the field, you don't wanna be dead before you can make that needed trap!
Now Status Effects and Player Icons -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
-Once you hit Hunter Rank 4 and up Quests, You may find your self randomly placed on Map and no supplys at Camp. Check quest before hand to make sure you don't need Hot drinks or Cold Drinks. Losing stamina and health because you didnt spend extra 5 seconds to check, will only hurt you and party members your hunting with.
Now to learn about some of bad things that effect you and other players!
If you see someone down by Sleep Effect, kick them or hit them to wake them up. Better you, then Gravios Beam. Flash Effect is solved before most player can hit them. If your playing with someone new, make sure point out faster recovery via pressing X and spinning left stick.
SnowMan effect can also be fixxed by getting hit, or kicking a player effected with it. When using Thawing Agent, remember your char will be open to attack for a second! Don't try to cure when monster is facing you!
Paralysis Players can do nothign but wait for it to wear off, =( Inless of course nother player hits them with powerfull attack like hammer upswing, Lv3 Charge(hammer), Lance Charge that sends them flying! He he he.
Upgrading Gear -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Upgrade, Upgrade! Upgrade and never stop!
Having trouble killing something, quest took 30mins? Upgrade that gear! Always seek out new parts need to upgrade your weapons. More damage you can do, better off you are.
Armor should be upgrade via armor stones and new Armor itself. More defense , better hits you can take.
Players should be able to make armor like Battle Gear and Hunter Gear as soon as they star a few quests. Kill and carve them kelbi and bullfangos! These armor may seem useless or weak, But they provide beginner skills to aid you.
Once you take down your first Kut ku or Congalala, start killing more and make them armors! You try them out and find skill and sets you like.
Once you get to Hr:4 You should start making new armors like S and U Class. These will keep you alive, looking cool, kicking butt and taking names! Near end of 8star quest you should have RED colored armor up. These will get you into G-rank and keep you alive. Some of these armors are powerful! and have alot of Gem slots. Mix and Match and you may walk out of your house looking pretty damn cool.
Something about a School Girl and Gaint sword, that just makes killing stuff fun. >_>
-Fancy looks... Save that for the pro's and experenced hunters. Sure that Ninja armor looks great, but its defense is horrable.
Nothing makes a ninja look bad, like a dead ninja. Try to Balance them looks and Defense! =D
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Explore, explore, explore! Can't find item? Try killing new monsters, and search new maps.
Search every nook and cranie and mine all the spots!
Just about every new monster part or ore you get will open up new items and equipment to create. Always be on look out to get new stuff. Every map offers new items and unquie to the area. Sometime one map will have better chances to get such a item.
Places like Jungle and Swamp are great for Bugs! Volcano has the Rare Scarab(hr4-hr6) and Phantom Butterfly(G-rank) depending on the rank.
Volcano, Desert and Swamp are great for finding Ores.
Swamp, depending on level of quest can have Light crystals(low ranks), Nova's(hard rank), and pure Crystals(g-rank) from crystals formations.
Volcano will have items like Firestone and Firecell's.
Don't forget to use Bomb Mining cat or Trenya at Volcano to keep steady ore flow coming in!

Playing with others! Part 1.
-Team Work
Work as a group, and quest will go by like clock work! Or itlest get futher then you could alone.
-Being friendly
Nothing screws something up like a Bad Apple.
-Patience
Some people are new, other long time players. Don't expect everyone to know everything.
-Be Ready
Save stuff like farm and such for alone play time. Waiting 5mins inbetween quest can ruin mood. Don't forget you can use (^) Triangle near the door to teleport around town!
Items like Max Potions(max hp 150) and Ancient Potions (max hp 150/ Max stam 150) Can help you aviod cat kitchen and get you ready faster for a quest!
(Blue Mushroom + GodBug) =(Nutrents + Honey) =(Mega Nutrients + Dragon Toadstol) = Max Potion
(Catalyst + Dragon Toadstool) =(Immunizer + Kelbi Horn) = Ancient Potion!
(Honey + Bitterbug) = Catalyst.

Elder dragons -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Tough guys arent they? There some important info you should know before facing them!
Few of them follow normal quest rules, kill them in time limit and failing means restarting.
Teosrta, Lunastra, Chameleos and Kushala Daora and also Fatalis types however do not!
They follow a much more forgiving rule set. Thou quest say 50mins, they often repel at 25min mark. (dislcuding download events)
As long as enough damage is done, they will run at 25min mark. Now lower rank ones can easly be wounded, G-rank ones sometime wont run at 25min, beat on them abit more and they should flee when enough damage is dealt.
You can also die 3 times and not lose where you left off. Which is one of coolest things about them. Broke horns, but got Ko'd urself 3 times!?
The next time you do the quest the damage and horns will still be broken! If you cut tail and didnt carve, it wont be there next quest! So if you broke horns and have 2 deaths, you may want to wait it out till repel to make sure you get them in the awards. =3
Teostra And Lunastra have nasty fire aura that drains your health (much like the heat of Volcano) Items like Imunizier, Gourment fish+ can help reduce this.
Dont forget Terran skill and Damage Recovery 1 and 2 can be added to help.
You can also break horns/face plate to stop it. You need Dragon Element thou, remember that.
As small oddity, You can damage the face with any type of weapon, but its gotta be dragon to actully cause the break.
Posion also makes them drop the aura.
Chameleos horn also follows along same line, you'll need dragon element to break it. And his nasty spit! Can be cured with a energy drink! Armor seeds and such to remove armor down status.
Kushala Daora's eye can be taken out by any weapon type, just keep attacking head and wind barrier will drop!
Don't forget poison is one of his weakness and will remove the wind barrier!
You'll also need +20 in wind breaker skill to get past Kusha and Cham wind attacks. =D
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some simple cat info. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
-Cat are invincable, and cant die. No worrys!
-Cats gain stats and points even if not selected after a quest (long as there training)
-Cats max at level 20, but stats can still be raised and changed. =3
Quite few more, I'll save those for Cat Blog!
There are 2 Tempermants that do not come back till after quest! I'll cover that in later blog! =3
Some last bit of tidbits! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Don't rush thru game, getting to hr9 shouldnt be your main goal. You'll miss out on half the game just trying to rush there.
If you don't keep up wirh armor and weapons, you'll be a liablity to other players and not have skills, armor, weapons to live long enough to be useful.
You'll probaly piss off the other players, who now have to watch out for you.
I've tryed many times to do a hr9 quest, but one memeber who still tryinng to use hr6 stuff keeps getting killed.
Your costing people supplys and zenni by doing this. G rank is hard for reason, don't go rushing in.
Your better off clearing quests up, then moving foward all time, alot of people find they can't beat a monster...
most of the time its shady gear that hasnt been upgraded, or a weapon not strong enough for the quest.
Well this is it for part one. I hope you were able to pick itlest 1 or 2 things out of this.
Don't Forget BOOK SHELF! next to your bed, it contains info about area's, skills and monsters!
So much info, if only you would spend 5mins reading it. =3
Till next time! Nya!
Sorry for any grammers and spellings..no one was around to proof read this for me. =/
PLEASE comment on!
Any questions you have, Ask! =3 It'l help me better on next Blog Post.
